@TomSrOfBoston S didn’t get anything – phone calls, emails, faxes, tweets, facebook posting, zero, nothing, nada …
You would think he never applied to the school!
I have to admit that I got a little bit worried after hearing of kids getting phone calls from AO. I was a bit puzzled, as the rationale here in CC was that very likely those phone calls were for the top students in the admission pile. I considered S to be a solid applicant (M800, CR770, W720, ML2 800, Physics790, Bio730, 4.0 UW, 16 AP, National AP Scholar, NMSF - likely Finalist, National Hispanic Scholar, Dual Citizen from a poor, under-represented country, and graduating from a Title I, minority-majority school).
Being the person he is, S remained chill through all this. He also stays away from CC, which I think helps.
Decision time came, and he starts reading his decision … University Scholar … Honors Program … full tuition … We were through the roof!
I was even afraid the letter was a mistake, so I encouraged him to look at the financial aid package, and there it was the tuition grant/gift of $46K+
My advise to all worried/nervous teenagers and parents out there not getting any news: We don’t know why AO do what they do. The only word that really matters is what you get in the admission’s letter/email/notification decision. Before that, no one really knows what’s about to happen.
Stay positive and GOOD LUCK!
