Anyone received acceptances letters yet?

I see that yankeegirl49's daughter got her acceptance letter. Has anyone else heard from Ithaca about acceptances? Anyone gotten word on Park Scholar finalists? I applied RD and also applied for the Park Scholar Program and am waiting anxiously for word to come. fingers crossed

Theatre..Parks Scholars finalists won't be notified until March 1. finalist weekend is March 25-28.
Good luck to you..we are keeping our fingers crossed as well. That is one heck of a scholarship.

Agreed! It is a fabulous opportunity!!

Thanks for the reminder about the date ... I saw the March 1 on the Park Scholar timeline, but wasn't sure whether they perhaps started notifications before that.

Good luck to your daughter, too! Perhaps I'll meet her over finalist weekend :-) What is her intended major? Mine is Cinema & Photography, with a screenwriting concentration, and possibly Theatrical Arts Management ... we'll see about the double major. C&P is the more important of the two for me.

My D wants to major in journalism, but will most likely do a double major with Poly Sci.
Hopefully you will both be at finalist weekend and you can meet up.

Word from the wise...if you get selected as a finalist you will most-likely hear before the dates that they say. They only give you that date as a guideline in case they have to pick back-ups because others can't make it.

Oh yeah...P.S. if you are interested in PRODUCTION (whether it be cinema or tv) you might want to do TV-R with a concentration in Video Prod. One of my friends switched this semester from C&P to TV-R because she felt the Cinema major wasn't focused enough on production.

ICisGorgesGal,

Thanks for the info... I've noticed your postings on this forum in the past and enjoyed reading your view from inside Ithaca. You are a Park Scholar, right? What is your major?

I wondered about C&P vs. TV-R, but ended up coming to the conclusion that C&P was probably more up my alley ... actually, from what I've read, TV-R seems a bit too production-oriented. LOL! Writing for movies and television is one of my passions and, for me, the screenwriting concentration is one of Ithaca's several biggest draws. Also, my other major interests are creative writing (like short stories and novels, especially science fiction) and theatre, and looking at the course requirements for a C&P major, I will easily be able to incorporate those interests.

It seems to be pretty unique to find a school of Ithaca's size that actually has a special program of sorts for screenwriting. At other colleges of comparable size, screenwriting is usually just a single class in the English/writing department, at best. I had expected to have to attend a univerisity the size of USC or NYU to get more.

Do you know anything about the C&P major in terms of screenwriting? Am I off in my assessment of the C&P major? Thanks!

TheatreChic, If screenwriting is your passion you should definitely be in TV-R. That is the major with the screenwriting concentration. Also, be aware that it is very hard to double-major unless the two majors are the same type of degree - B.S., B.A., ect. Also, I don't know if you would be able to do Theatre Arts Mangement because it has a special application process to be accepted as well...although, I'm sure that you could probably work something out.

And yes, I am a freshman Park Scholar. I began this year as a Journalism major and am in the process of switching into Integrated Marketing Communications as I've realized I'm much more interested in P.R. and Advertising.

I'm always happy to answer questions for prospective students, so feel free to ask more.

ICisGorgesGal,

I'd completely forgotten that TV-R had a *writing concentration! I looked it up in the '05-'06 undergrad catalog that the admissions office sent last month, and here's what struck me:

C&P has a concentration in *screen*writing; TV-R has a concentration in *script*writing. The C&P screenwriting concentration requires classes like Intro to Theater, Advanced Screenwriting, and Film Fiction Theory. The TV-R major & its scriptwriting concentation requires Intro to Mass Media and Quantitative Mass Media Research Methods. Honestly, I'm still more interested in C&P.

So, its true that if you double major, the two majors have to produce the same degree? (i.e. both B.A., both B.S. or both B.F.A.?) I'd never seen a school require that before, and when I called the admissions office and asked about it, the woman that I spoke to had never heard of the requirement.

Actually, that requirement is the reason I'm considering Theatrical Arts Management, rather than one of the other theater majors -- its the only one that produced a B.S., plus it would just be a great major to have, as I'd love to direct a children's theatre someday.

(Wow, I never thought that I'd be wanting to graduate college with a B.S.! With my interests, I always assumed I'm be getting a B.A. But hey, as long as I get to study what I love, who cares what letter comes after B!!) :-)

I'm not sure that I will double major, but I am now looking into whether I can still do an interview for the Theatrical Arts Management major. Thank you, thank you for reminding me that it would have a special requirement!!!

Oh, ok I'm sorry I didn't know about the screenwriting concentration in C&P ... woops. :)

And, like I said, it probably doesn't HAVE TO BE the same degree track, I've just heard that it's hard to have two different ones if you aren't bringing credits in (b/c B.A. requires lots of liberal arts courses, B.S. has a lot of departmental requirements, ect.), because it starts to take you more than 4 years to finish.

Anyways, best of luck!

Thank you for clarifying that stuff about the double major! That's really good to know... I'd like to be done in four years, if possible. :-)

P.S. I found out that I have been accepted to Ithaca! **YAY!!!!* I have not gotten my official letter yet, but an admissions officer from Ithaca called this week to work out a slight hangup with my app, and she went ahead and told us that my acceptance letter was on the way. :-D I'm so excited! Now begins the wait till Park Scholars are announced. sigh*

Congratulations!!! That's great. (Yes, I'm a random person who pops in.)

LOL! Thanks, IzzyJ.

Congrats TheatreChic..and good luck with Parks!

I remember getting a call about finalist weekend last year. I got a call in mid-February from the director and was so freaked out because I thought he was calling to ask more questions or something.

Nope, he just calls to let you know you are accepted. :)

And let me tell you, they are working hard on reviewing the applications, that's all they are doing when we go into the office. Exciting times!

Getting more & more excited...

:-D :-D :-D

FYI. Got official acceptance letter yesterday!!! For "admission to the Roy H. Park School of Communications for undergraduate study in Cinema & Photography." I love the way they word that! Also received a letter that I'm been chosen as a President's Scholar! YAY!!!!

Now, just biting my nails waiting to hear about Park Scholars.... i*

I applied to Ithaca under the regular decision plan. I sent in my application before Christmas and I read in a college guide book that Ithaca has "rolling admissions". I know the final date for apps. was today (2/1) Does anyone know about the time that I will hear a decision? I live in MA and applied to the school of arts&sciences. Thanks!

I am a new member-just wanted to know if anyone else has heard from Ithaca and the Park scholarship yet?

I still haven't heard anything about Park Scholars finalists. The waiting is SO hard!

"lpart" -- I'm assuming you applied to Ithaca & for the Park Scholarship ... have you heard anything yet? what's your intended major?
