I don't know if I should try this or no. Kinda time consuming. My lectures are 1 hour 20 minutes long

The only prof I have that does that type of thing asked us not to record him because he hates the sound of his own voice…

Sometimes I record audio for each powerpoint slide in onenote. So I can just scroll to the powerpoint slide that I am interested in and listen to the material I need to hear again without skipping through an audio file and guessing where the professor is in the presentation.

I’ve never really felt a desire to. I know a couple people that do, but I personally don’t see it as being that beneficial. I’m a pretty good note taker, which I think counts for more than anything else. If you take proper notes and pay attention, you shouldn’t need to listen to the entire lecture again.

It’s also worth pointing out that some professors don’t allow their lectures to be recorded, due to intellectual property rights. You should always ask first.

I try to…

but then when I listen to them at home, I can barely hear what they’re saying over the sound of papers shuffling and the occasional coughing or sneezing.

I don’t record the lectures because the professors at my university already do that (Well, most of them) and post these podcasts on the class Smartsite (a website my school uses). It’s useless to record lectures when the professor is already doing that.

@ comfortablycurt: I have to listen to podcasts because I have an extremely hard time following along. I cannot take notes and listen at the same time-it’s impossible for me. When my professors say something important, and they say several things that are important all at once, I will literally forget WHAT they said by the 3rd word, especially if they’re speaking really fast (and I’ve also written down the wrong term before as well). I lose my train of thought easily. It’s why my notes are always incomplete and why I have to re-listen to the podcasts they post.

THIS IS MY PROBLEM. It’s hilarious if I think back, though, about how all I hear are the crappy chairs squeaking and the coughing and sneezes and little noises that just make my recording useless.

I mean, I try to as well for classes that I need it in. I try.
