Anyone sent LOR to schools which don't require to do so?

I'm applying to UIUC and they don't require LOR. When I asked them if it is ok to send one, they said they will not review the LOR anyways. But many of the members in this board said it may help us! Should I send one?

well if the college said not to then obviously not

some schools don’t require them but will review them if you send them, apparently yours is not one of them

The University of michigan doesnt require any recs for transfers but I sent in 3.
I got in, so it shouldnt be a problem.

Send it. What have you got to lose?

your time, the profs. time. its one thing if they don’t require them but accept them like uMich, its another if they won’t even look at them

If it’s the only school you’re applying, then all right. But if you’re applying to multiple schools, it takes the professor about 3 seconds to mail out the rec.

honestly…i didnt see any use of sending (extra) LORs to big state schools. Well, my friend who worked at the admission office of my current school, also a big reputational state school told me they just threw all optional materials away…as simple as that…she actually saw the dean of admission threw some extra ROLs right away to the trash bin with the words–that where they belong to…not really sure about the case of UIUC though…

but its not even that they purport that they look at one, they state they don’t look at them at all
