Anyone still waiting on schools?

Here we are on April 1st and we've still got 2 out there (the "Ps" as I like to call them - Pace and Purchase). Both say they are still missing documents. Ugh! I swear there's a mail goblin eating our outgoing mail as we've sent multiple copies. So frustrating.

Anyone else still waiting to hear?

Still nothing official from Hartt here….

Purchase told us today that we are either waitlisted or rejected. And as they get things processed, they will let us know. Ummmm…K. I gave them until April 1. Now I guess it doesn’t really matter. S said they were still in the running, but he has some travel and scheduling decisions to make, so we will proceed as if it is a “no”.

@Bisouu a friend of mine’s daughter just heard from Hartt and was accepted!
And we are still waiting to hear from Purchase too. Maybe I will call on Thur as I wait for D to visit at Northern Illinois.

I emailed Purchase over a week ago…this is the reply we received last night. Read it closely and you will know why it gave my son and I a good laugh. Ignore the “xxxx”…I put them in to replace his name. I know this will sound like I am a sore loser (he called last week and got his rejection over the phone) but its a good thing their program is really inexpensive…

“Please pardon this delay of response. We have experienced a delay of decisions being sent to some of our Acting applicants because of some technical issues. We have resolved this issue that has effected xxxx receiving his decision in a more timely manner. xxx’s decision will be mailed to him ASAP. I am here in the office working late tonight and I do not know how long I will be here since I am not feeling well. Please have xxx to call me if he would like to know of his decision much sooner. I have cc’d this e-mail to xxxx as well.”

At least it’s a personal touch…

@compadv - oh dear! (says the former law review editor)

It sounds like the admissions office at Purchase has employees who have rich relatives who have just died in Nigeria and are willing to share their inheritance with you if you can advance them some funds. Or they are traveling in Wales and had their passports stolen and will repay you when they arrive back in the US.

We only heard from Hartt yesterday and only because they sent us an invitation to the reception. A clue as to their intent!
Still waiting on financial aid info from PACE.

We’re still waiting to hear from Purchase. If they are having tech difficulties, all it takes is a mass email to applicants. It isn’t rocket science.

Perhaps no email distribution list exists and maybe that is part of the problem? At this point, I am actually more curious about what is going on than I am if my D has been accepted! I wonder if anyone will lose their job over it, or is it their modus operandi? Inquiring minds want to know!

We’ve been operating as if it’s a “no” for weeks.

Seriously, I cannot imagine a poorer way to handle this process than the way Purchase has done it this year. I do not know if there were similar issues in years past, but if other programs - big and small - can handle it, I really have trouble believing the excuses (the few that are out there) at this point. We too have been operating under the assumption it is a “no” and have not included a campus visit there in our trip back east (again) in 10 days.

Not sure what’s happening with Purchase, but you have to remember that it’s a state school without the biggest budget in the world, and the number of applicants to the theatre program is extraordinary. Just about every theatre student in the whole NY area applies there, and plenty of others besides.

@NJTheatreMOM - maybe that’s the case and they are just horribly understaffed or whatever. But as Anonymom00 suggested, an email list serve could go far in keeping applicants informed of the issues.

Point Park is reporting they are “overwhelmed” and that the people still waiting for a decision will receive word within two weeks. They are out of the running at our house no matter what the decision, but I imagine there are kids out there waiting for their answer to decide where they will go next year. Two weeks before May 1st is a very short time to make a major decision.

My D just called Purchase again (and after several emails to them and one finally telling us to call) and so got the" I’m sorry. We have a very extensive list of callers and will get back to you as soon as possible." Nice.

NJtheatremom, I’m sure the SUNY people are good people and well-intentioned, but posting an apologetic statement on the website takes one person and 30 seconds or less. It is a lot easier than trying to return individual phone calls to people who all have the same question. Tweet an announcement or something. It reflects poorly on the school to not address it in some way. It just seems very, very odd to me.

My daughter only applied to state-funded schools. Nine of them. Four of them “top-tier.” She had heard weeks ago (actually a month ago) from all except SUNY.

If SUNY is understaffed, underfunded, and overwhelmed, they should audition fewer kids. Prescreen.

But how can they be overwhelmed when they schedule their auditions and can control the size of the pool they are evaluating? The delay has to be because of whatever tech glitch they are having. But they’re not notifying people. I’m sorry, but I cannot help but wonder if records have been lost.

Is anyone else still waiting on financial aid packages? Perhaps I’m being impatient, but without any idea how we are going to pay for this, and with travel plans to visit schools monday… I’m starting to get really squirrel y.

Still waiting on a couple here, @Octaviar.

@octaviar - yep.

Yup, Tulane & Univ of Minn…
