anyone stuck writing the 4 supp. essays?

I'm having trouble writing the four essays for the common application.
NYU sure wants us to speak our mind:

NYU
Describe a trait or characteristic that has been passed along to you by your family. Tell us why you like or dislike this part of yourself.

New York City is an essential element of academic and cultural life at NYU. If you could start a club or service organization at NYU, what would it be and how would you envision it impacting the larger community?

You have been selected to sing in a talent show. What song would you choose? Why?

Please tell us what led you to select your anticipated academic program and/or NYU school/college, and what interests you most about your intended discipline.

anyone have any suggestions, help with writers block for these specific questions?

The talent show one is especially difficult for me... what song are you guys singing?

wasn't the deadline the 1st of Jan or is th 15?

theres a whole thread on what everyones singing. try to answer everythign to the best of ur ability and honestly.

flmaingspirit could you tell em the link to teh thread please?

wow did they change the questions for this year? interesting.

Ohhhh man...these 4 questions are killing me!

Guys...haha...it's not that bad. Y'all will be ok, just think about it.

And the song can be ANY song...I personally would choose Kat DeLuna's "Whine Up." But that's just me :-).

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/new-york-university/432935-accepted-students-what-song-u-singin.html

I was accepted ED, I sang "The Weight" by the Band because my brothers and I are named after it. Sing a song that A. Means something to you (IE not just your favorite song right now), and B. The admissions people might have heard at some point.

I'm writing about Sweet Baby James by James Taylor because that is my special song with my dad, James. My first concert was James Taylor :-)

Cheesy, but genuine.

I don't know what to write about for the traits one. This may be a silly question, but is it physical traits or character traits? Hehe.

i think either is acceptable.

I was thinking that, too, I just wanted a sort of general conclusion so I didn't get it totally backwards.

I actually found these supplements quite easy... or maybe I just didn't care that much... In any case, don't stress over it too much.

about the whole "choosing a song adcoms have probably heard in the past"
ummm i sang 'chicken noodle soup' by dj webstar
and i got into stern ;)
do yall think theyve heard that song before??

richmerino

how did you explain that one? (:

what did everyone write for the trait one? I can think of hobbies that have been passed down but not necessarily traits...grr.

I got in ED and I wrote about my parents' liberal way of thinking. (I called them left-wing, hippie, pinko, commie college professors, which they are)

D (got in ED) wrote about how our family "works hard to be able to play hard" and how we try to balance the two. That it taught her how to multi-task from a young age.

I wrote about:

1-stubborn grandma (but shedding a positive light on it, since it's my trait)
2-not telling, but I think it's pretty unique and great for helping NYU AND NYC.
3-a song about making mistakes but laughing about them and being spontaneous (and how that relates to me)
4-why gallatin?

These aren't that hard. I think they're meant to show your real self...so let your personality shine!
