If so what program did you use? How'd it go? How long were you gone for?

I'm trying to convince my parents to let me do a summer study program in France next year, but I'm not quite sure which one. (and of course how to convince them...)

A lot of people use AFS to study abroad. They have programs in a ton of countries, and their programs vary from summer studies to semester studies to full school-year studies. I’ve heard a lot of good things about AFS, but I myself haven’t used them so I can’t give you my personal experience. They are pretty expensive, though. (But then again, most study abroad programs will set you back at least several thousand dollars unless it’s part of a merit organization or if it’s a scholarship, etc.) Cultures-shocked is a great study abroad forum. I think they’re all high school study abroad participants, and the majority of them used AFS or Rotary.

Thanks so much! I’ll check it out!

My friend has spent this semester in Jerusalem…I dont know how she got into it though.

@hatshepsut that’s really awesome :D

I spent last summer in Russia and this summer I’ll be in Russia as well under the National Security Language Initiative for Youth scholarship sponsored by the Department of State. It’s truly a life-changing experience and opens your mind to the real idea of culture and language. To convince your parents - it looks good on college applications, you are more mature, a higher level of fluency in the target language, and a higher level of self confidence. I could go on and on but if you need anything else, shoot me a PM.
