Anyone surprised by literature?

so im really disappointed. the previous testing i had gotten a 710 on literature but this time i got a 620. did anyone think it was really easy though?

I was surprised in the reverse, I thought I BOMBED it on test day, but then received my scores and got a decent 690.

I thought it was actually pretty easy (despite it being my first time) and ended up with a 730, so I’m happy. I put no effort into studying for it, and I doubt that I could surpass this (and even if I could I don’t feel like trying to).

I was very pleasantly surprised with Literature. I got a 780 when I had done fairly poorly on practice tests (mid-600s). Though, the scores on the practice tests are inconsistent with how I usually score…

Matt

I wonder what the curve was. I got a 790, but was pretty sure I had gotten an 800. Still, not complaining.

I got a 730. I was expecting a 750. The “skins” passage messed my score up, I guessed on all 8 of the questions for the passage.

Basically this is always a hard test. Don’t take it unless you’ve spent a decent amount of time reading poetry and older literature.

I was really surprised in a good way, I thought it was really hard, expected 500-600, but I got a 790 somehow

i was totally surprised, but in a good way!! i was thinking maybe 680ish but i got a 740!

I got 740 too, but I feel as if I should have gotten at least 750+. Bad luck I guess.

Were any of you in AP Literature at the time when you took the test, and do you think it adequately prepared you? Did you use any prep books?

Thank you very much, and congratulations on all of your high scores :)

I was in AP Language/comp, we sort of covered some analysis at the beginning of the year, but I’m not doing Lit until next year

Yeah i took it on a whim because i knew i was going to do terrible in bio so i thought if i could do good in lit then it might balance it out. i got a 740 which was surprising(in a good way). The only prep i had was my Eng lang/comp class i had this year so maybe that prepares you for it? I dont know i like to read so that might be it lol

I thought the test was hard, actually. I thought I really bombed it (5-600), I didn’t pay attention to time, dawdled, I even daydreamed (ugh), then was constantly thinking about the time instead of the question, but was surprised to get a 710… which leads me to believe there was a good curve? I did one of those SAT II big blue book practice tests and got a 780, so I want to take the test again in case I can do better, lit is my best subject.

I did take AP lang/comp this year, but our class was…well… I find the only way to study is just by being an active reader outside of class, half the books I read this year were classics outside our curriculum that consisted exclusively of 1950s+ american literature.

i generally consider myself good at reading/interpreting. but is a 90 point difference significant? should i get a rescore? im not going to hang my hopes on it…but i did better on my bio one which i self studied and had only taken a class for sophomore year.

I got a 670 but I had been at 750+ in practice tests, so needless to say it’s disappointing and surprising. I don’t think I’m gonna retake, tho

Seriously what the hell. I got an 800 in CR but a 680 in literature, and needless to say I’m not pleased that I’m going to have to retake it in the fall. Does anyone have any good study tips for someone who just can’t do well on this test for some reason?

I was pretty surprised at my score as well. I took Literature in May after a month of studying Barron’s and Kaplan’s and taking all the practice tests-- I spent almost three hours each day preparing for it and I ended up getting a 720, even though I thought the May test had been fairly easy.

As for June, I hadn’t been planning on retaking Lit. I spent the entire month of May preparing for the SAT World History Subject Test, then finally quit at the beginning of June because I felt I couldn’t possibly memorize all the material. I took Literature cold, without any prep or practice tests, and I ended up getting a 750. (That June test was hard, though.)

Right now I’m debating whether or not to retake Lit a third time. I’ll be a junior next year though, so I would be busy with APs and the actual SAT, but I’m taking AP English next year as well, so that might help.

tsubomi1993: Not that I’m really qualified to help you, but I think that the best short-term way to prep for Lit is to take practice tests and check your answers. Also pay attention and participate in your literature class, especially when your teacher is analyzing something. (The long-term way is to read a lot and try to tackle some of the “classics” so that you get a sense of the type of passages the test will give you, but this method takes years.)

i thought the test was extremly easy like i thought i barely missed any but i got a 710 anyone know what the curve was?

My practice test scores ranged from 700-800 and my final score was 740. I actually thought I did better, but I’m satisfied.
