Anyone take a theatre class in college without much prior experience?

I've always had a passion for theatre and acting, but I was too afraid to pursue it after being rejected in [private] school plays (where children of the faculty would be cast as the main roles) for the longest time. Because I love it, I've decided to actually learn how to act and take a Theatre class. Now, I know most kids who take theatre courses in college most likely have a lot of experience. Will/Have you take/taken a theatre class without much prior experience? If so, how did it work for you?

It’s completely fine and I disagree that most have tons of experience. Even if they do, you will learn faster. Do it and have fun. And hope that your teacher doesn’t take herself too seriously, I’ve had awesome and horrible (personality problems) theatre teachers. But I’d take it.

I’m currently taking acting class and I have no experience what’s so ever. And TBH, I really suck at acting, I always laugh and lose concentration. But its a fun class and our prof is very easy on us, she never gave us any hard assignment/plays. Overall its a nice experience :)

Oh, sweet! Sounds cool!

I took the first-year introductory acting class in my undergraduate college and neither I nor the majority of the class had extensive experience acting (I had supporting roles in a few high school plays, but it wasn’t like I was on Broadway or anything). I loved the class and I did pretty well performance-wise (I got a low final grade in the class, though, because I skipped it too much. Lesson learned in freshman year: the professor really WILL drop your final grade a letter grade if you miss more classes than she wants.)

Matter of fact, most of our drama majors didn’t have extensive experience before coming to undergrad. Some of them had raw talent that they developed in college. Others did go to performing arts high schools or what not, but there was no distinguishing between groups. Anyone could be a drama major, if they wanted. Most places don’t require auditions to major in theatre/drama, so go for it and have fun!

oh sweet, i feel much better about it now, thanks guys!
