i need HELP....i've done really well on my critical reading (760) when i took it in jan..but i've done some practice tests for literature and I'm getting in the 600s ....

also the curve for lit is extremely harsh

any suggestions???

so far i'm practicing from the princeton review, barrons, and blue book for subject test

I thought the Princeton Review book practice tests were actually a little more difficult than the real test. I think I got something like, 670, 720, 730, and 740 on those, but I got an 800 on the real thing. I've talked to a few people about it, and apparently, you (generally) come out of the test thinking you bombed it, and then you find out you did really well...so don't lose hope!

took my last PR practice test and got a 710. not that hard if you disect the passages piece by piece. the hard part is to not let your mind wander while reading the passages.

I got an 800, but...I don't really have any tips. It seems to me like analyzing literature is something some people are just good at, and some aren't. I mean, obviously I would not be nearly as skilled without the help of my teachers, but plenty of students in my class had the exact same lessons and don't do as well.
But Lit does tend to be tough, and colleges will know that. I mean, you say "in the 600s"...but that's a big range. a 610 could be a problem, a 690 won't hurt you any. You can always take something else...

If I have to give advice...I would say don't overthink it. Obviously it's somewhat subjective, so if you go crazy trying to analyze every word of every question, assuming they're somehow misleading...you'll likely not do as well, and will certainly waste a lot of time.
I would read the passage at least once first, just to get any initial impressions. These will be useful when you're obeying my first piece of advice. Sometimes poetry will be dense, and after reading the questions, you realize you had obviously misinterpreted. That's ok. But most of the time you'll get the gist. And if you go into the passage already looking for certain things from the question, you might think you're seeing them when they aren't really there.

yah that's exactly what i'm wondering. barrons seems to include so many obscure things and subtleties. i'm goin to take a real one from the collegeboard book tonight crosses fingers
i mean, i did really well on critical reading..and if it weren't for a two mistakes on the vocabulary sentence completions, i think i would've gotten an 800.
