My AP gov teacher is fed up with low test scores and now he is forcing us to take notes in his grueling and archaic style by having us write the main point of every single paragraph in the chapter along with a summary of each section. Also, we have to do this for two chapters since he's trying rush and be done with the book by April. This is about 55 textbook pages total. along with vocabulary, which is all due Monday.

When was this assigned?

It was assigned on Friday.

b.

f.

d.

No, I had to take notes using that same exact style for APUSH but we did it for every chapter…

But did you have to do it all in one weekend?

Oh I thought this was actually going to be about a lengthy assignment.

But seriously, it’s supposed to be a college level class, and reading 50 pages over a weekend is a light load for a college class. I’m sure you don’t have to write anything profound for each paragraph and section, so it’s really just writing down something you should have been thinking about anyway. I can see why you’d be upset now, but this type of assignment is much better prep for college work than 99% of the other things you do in high school.

Oh yes. APUSH outlines…

It may be petty and unfair and really long, but try and suck it up and just get it done.

I do this every week for AP World.

Every page.

The book has about 1500 pages.

Well excuuuuuuuuse me.

I’m going to go waste my weekend on my super long HW now.

You get used to it. It gets really simple after a while. You really do learn a lot.

Not really, I had to do that for APUSH. Averaged about 25-35 pages a night. One night I had to do 60 pages of reading and notes for the next day. I was assigned about the same amount of work as you on the weekends, too. It’s really not that bad after a while :)

I never liked the fact that, despite this being a not uncommon note taking style requirement in certain AP classes, in college, your notes don’t count for a grade and you have the freedom to take your notes in whatever way you find suitable to you to learn. Yet I suppose it’s not unfair regardless, especially since the OP only has to do this for about two months.

Yeah, it used to annoy me too. But I guess I figure now that if you’re getting credit just for taking notes you don’t have much to complain about.

No. That’s actually a really good way to take notes, you should probably be doing it anyway.

No. This is completely normal. Get off the web and get your work done.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaha

Really, that is not a lot considering I’ve got two of those tomorrow. You get used to it. btw, 50 pages for a college class is nothing much. As a dual-enrollment student, some of my professors give 2-3 chapters per night with homework, possibly a quiz the next class meeting.
