Hey. I am just looking for some insight from anyone who knows about getting into GT as a transfer student. Below is a quote that I am wondering about. The quote is taken from the GT website regarding transfer students.

[quote]
While admission to Georgia Tech is never guaranteed, students who have completed all minimum requirements including specifically required courses, total number of transferable credit hours, and minimum GPA (both overall and math/science courses) should be very competitive for admission.

What do they mean by very competitive? Does this mean that if I meet the minimum requirements, and don't exceed them by very much, I'll have a pretty decent chance of getting in?

For me (GA resident, industrial engineering major), those requirements are a 2.7 GPA overall and in math/science, and completing the course requirements by major (Calc 1-2, English 1-2, Physics 1). These seem kinda low, given that GT's engineering programs are so highly regarded.

A 2.7 is the minimum, but it won’t make you competitive. They probably realize that engineering coursework is hard so they lax up some. Also, I thought transferring into an engineering major required/recommended some more math classes along w/stuff like chemistry (the lab science elective in case of industrial engineering). If you go up in there w/a 2.7, don’t expect the transition to be smooth.

You’re right, I forgot to mention the lab science req. Are you saying that my quote is not accurate? Also, my stats aren’t bare minimum but also aren’t excellent. I am guessing I’ll have an overall GPA of 3.1 with a 3.4 math/science GPA. I will have all of the minimum course requirements done after this semester.

You’ll likely have a reasonable (if reasonable is like 1/3) chance of getting in. Go check there common data set or something. NM, here it is: [Common Data Set | Institutional Research and Planning](http://www.irp.gatech.edu/content/common-data-set)

It has the same clause in the transfer admissions section (I also find their first year stats. sketch. Good, but sketch. Admissions offices are weird and clearly report data differently to “enhance” a little bit. I used to swear up and down, we had the same exact stats).
