If so, maybe we can help each other out!

I’ll be applying as a transfer for fall 2010. Only 3.5 months til the application is due! I’m already on like the hundreth draft of my essays. Haha.

Haha oh my God me too! Are you doing the 217 essay?

What part of the school are you all trying to get into? I’m transferring into the school of Nursing. I am in the process of scheduling an interview with one of the assistant deans/directors but I have no idea what to expect, except for a few obvious things.

And I don’t know what to do about the 217 essay! One friend says do it and do it well and it’ll show that I’ll take a challenge. Another friend says it’s risky and it could screw me up. I’m thinking that I’ll just do it. I already have a lot to talk about in the required essay and it would be nice if the rest of what I have to say that would make that essay too long, went into the pg 217 essay.

I just wish I could talk to someone who’s applying as a sophmore in fall 2010 for the Nursing School! Do alot of people apply to it or is it mainly Wharton and the other schools?

-JM

I’m trying for the College. From what I’ve gathered, most people that apply are trying to get into Wharton (for obvious reasons) and the engineering school, but I’m sure there are people going for every school.

As far as the 217 essay…I have no idea what to write about! I don’t think it’ll hurt you if you write it, but if you do, it’ll show a different side of you that maybe couldn’t be seen from the rest of your app?

That’s really cool that you’re scheduling an interview…I didn’t know we could do that!

Right, right. I’m just praying for the best and doing my best. In the end, that’s all you can do, eh? :)

I agree with you on the 217 essay. My home life has a lot to do with why my grades/test scores aren’t that great. I have been to six different highschools and moved five times (6 houses) in three years. I have five younger siblings and my grandparents live with us. My family is poor but for a good cause. I have been working since I was 15. The list goes on. I am definitely more on the well-rounded, community service side than on the super book smart side. Not to say I’m not smart, hah. I just have yet to entirely prove that academically.

Well, for the nursing school it’s required for transfer students. I can’t find any information on what to expect, though. Where are you transferring from?

University of Iowa. You?

Valencia Community College. Yeah, I’ve got guts. Or just no money.

No that’s awesome haha.

Do you have any idea if it helps/hurts if you answer “yes” to the financial aid question?? I heard that it hurts but I don’t know if they can really accept/reject you off of that…??? I really hope not…

For the 217 essay, are we supposed to write about our life now…like from 18 years old? Or autobiography from like, when we’re old?!

im having difficulty deciding whether or not to submit the 217 essay too. i applied as a freshman RD last year, wrote the 217 essay and obviously it didnt help me. however, my friend who did get in wrote it too.

i just want it to be may already haha.

Valencia? Is it in Santa Clarita?

mmanarski - If you don’t mind me asking, where did you end up instead? &why did you decide to apply again?

I’m almost 100% sure Penn is need blind for transfers. Definitely need-blind for freshmen. Either way, if you need finaid, apply for it.

Well the thing is, I don’t think I necessarily “need” it… I don’t even know if I would get it! I didn’t get anything from FAFSA this year so if it hurts my chances of getting in…I don’t want to apply…

I’m now at Dickinson College, a small private liberal arts college about 2 hours west of philly. When I applied originally I sort of “half-assed” the application, didn’t know much about the school and it wasn’t my top choice. Plus I was focusing on small liberal arts colleges. I’ve visited a friend of mine who goes there and fell in love with it and the city of Philadelphia. Plus Penn has a unique “humanistic philosophy” major, which is exactly what I want. I was totally wrong about big universities.

That’s kind of the same for me! I visited it and fell in love…
