It's really the only UC I got into and dont want to stay at CC. Is anyone else going there? Anyone seen the campus? I know its in the middle of nowhere... I really hope UCSD accepts my appeal. Because if not, Merced it is.

To be honest, I’d rather go to a Cal State than Merced. It really is the armpit of California. The campus itself is “new” but it is EXTREMELY small compared to any of the UC’s, it’s smaller than Riverside and I thought it was as big as CSUFullerton. The city of Merced has its ghetto part and the other part is rural, with 1 movie theater. I really hope your appeal falls through!

haha me too, but thing is I already been to CSU Channel Islands and then I went to CC to transfer to a UC, and so far this is the only place that accepted me. I dont know, if I would of just stayed at Channel Islands I would of graduated couple days ago. Hah But have you been there yourself?

I had to do a report on a couple of the UC campuses and visited Merced before. I mean, if you’re just trying to get a degree from a UC, then Merced wouldn’t be THAT bad… The campus itself is far away from the city of Merced, which is a good thing. SF isn’t too far so would be able to go there sometimes. There are a lot of outdoors-ey type people at UCM so they have a lot of camping and hiking trips. Housing is CHEAP, like I could rent a full blown 4 bedroom + pool HOUSE for like $1300 a month or less. Food isn’t that bad, but I’m not really into “homey” cooking. The town itself has a lot of Whites and Hmong, when I drove by they all seemed to be involved in some sort of farming or manual labor. I didn’t see a single BMW/Benz/Audi etc. most vehicles were Ford trucks or Dodge vans. Ghetto part of Merced (where Movie is near) is dangerous at night, so try not to get mugged.

I am blown away they decided to put a campus in Merced

Michelle Obama just spoke there at for their commencement ceremony! I would say it will eventually make a good name for itself. Merced= better than most of the state schools. There are exceptions however.

I know! I remember seeing that on the news. What a great thing for that school. I just think the campus is going to face enormous difficulty in getting students to want to go there.

UC Merced and UC Riverside just mailed me acceptance letters and I didn’t apply.
They are pretty desperate for transfer students.
