Hello all! I am a rising senior in high school and have been looking at college dining plans lately. I feel that cooking on my own (if I have access to a kitchen) at college might be a nice break from college dining halls. Has anyone ever cooked using a Blue Apron- type service while in college? Any thoughts on the feasibility of this idea, good or bad, please share!
I’ve tried a meal prep service.
PROS
- Quality of ingredients – great.
- Flavor – great
- Teaching yourself to cook new things – great
- Convenience – no need to shop
CONS
- Health – some of the meals were as salty, sugary, and fatty as what I’d order out-- too much salt and fat for my taste, even after cutting some of that out of the mix
- Flavor – tasty, but see above for health
- Conenience – It’s great to have them delivered, but then you have to actually cook them. What if you prefer to eat with friends that night? Some require lots of steps.
- Packaging: outlandish amounts of plastic per meal as every ingredient is packaged in teensie amounts
- Cost – expensive IMHO
