Does anyone know the application process for transfers? I know what the website says in terms of deadlines and which forms to complete, but I'm wondering more about the timeline to receive a decision. Also I'm wondering when financial aid packages are generally released.

Hi @2016Candles,

If you are looking to transfer for the Spring 2014 semester, admissions counselors will start looking over those applications in September, you will probably receive a decision in about two weeks. At that time you will also recieve an scholarship offers if you qualify.

Thanks! I’m applying for Fall 14. do you know if I send the app now, will the turn around be just as fast as for spring?

@2016 Candles: You’re welcome! The turn around will be even faster if you are applying to transfer for Fall 2014.

For those who are planning to transfer for Fall 2014 when does the transfer application dates open for submitting the applications?

@Franco- The Common App is open, and all member questions and supplements are live.

Thanks 2016Candles.

I emailed SMU & was told till mid-Feb? I’m going to call, seems a little strange.

I’m not sure why they would say that. I submitted my application already, and I spoke to the admissions counselor for my state a couple of days ago. They indicated that I would have a decision within a few weeks.

For Fall 2014 or Spring? I’m looking for Fall 2014. Still mid February sounds really strange. This is what my brief email response said “You can apply starting in Mid-February for the Fall 2014 semester.”

I applied or Fall 2014.

Ok, now that is weird. I might as well apply & see what happens. Why would a rep from SMU write back with such a reply?

I am one of the Admission Counselors at SMU who works with transfer students. For the Fall 2014 semester, while you are welcome to apply now, we will not be reviewing completed applications until mid-February. The reason for this is mainly because a lot can change over the next year, especially if you are or will be enrolled in courses anytime between now and your entry time. If you will be taking classes in the Spring 2014 semester, you may still apply before you complete your semester coursework, but on your application you will need to list your in-progress courses.

@2016Candles and @franko5150: If either of you would like to follow up with your Admission Counselor, please do not hesitate to reach out to us! We would love to provide more clarification over email or phone-- I have a feeling there may have been some confusion as to the entry date, which is why one of you heard that we would have a decision within a few weeks and the other was told to wait. For the Spring 2014 semester, starting in early September we will be rolling out decisions within a few weeks of completion. However, for the Fall 2014, we will not review those until next semester.

Hey 2016candles- I’m also thinking about applying to transfer to SMU but for the Spring 2014 semester. What college are you at currently?

@Sdstar- I’m at a CC in Southern CA. What about you?

DO NOT transfer to SMU. I’m a sophomore here and I hate it so much! Unless you’re into the whole “Southern Millionaires vibe” I would not go here. All the bad rumors and rep about SMU is 100% true.

Funny, I haven’t heard any bad rumors about SMU. I’ll be applying for a transfer there, maybe I can take your place. '-)

Have you submitted your app yet?

@sdstar- I did submit my app, but I haven’t heard back yet. I received an email that gives me a link to my admissions info- telling me what docs they’ve received or still need. Have you applied yet?
