I'd really appreciate any opinions whatsoever. Again, I want it straight. It really wont hurt me lol...

that C+ is going to hurt you.

Your volunteering is nice but none of it is super original, your EC's other than volunteering are weak but you are hispanic so that should be a big plus. If UVa gives as much AA to hispanics as it does to blacks then you have a good shot. If not, then your chances are slim, but nonzero

Yeah, that hon bio class was something else because everyone except me happened to have the tests...

Forgot to add sports:

9-10th JV Basketball
11th Varsity Track

To be honest there are several things that stand out. Your CR score is great but the rest of your sat scores are weak, especially for OOS. You appear weak in the area of science and to some degree math compared to the average applicant. Relative to Math, I would ask current students if the lack of Calc. is going to hurt this candidate.

It is hard for me to calculate your gpa. I get the impression that you are on a semester/block schedule of some sort. Can you tell us your gpa? Please don't give weight to honors classes. Good luck!

I'm actually on a regular year schedule. We have 7 classes but some of those that I didn't specify are only half the semester. These include: 9th grade- Personal fitness and physical fitness 10th grade- Peer ministry and life management skills, and 11th grade- peer ministry and economics. I apologize for leaving that note out. Hopefully that will help in the gpa calculation. I have just seen so many different ways of computing it that I don't even bother including it...thanks for the posts

I also want to mention that I understand I am not at the level of the more competitive OOS applicants. I created this thread for the purpose of getting a pretty precise opinion as to a percentage. In my own optimistic opinion, I'd like to give myself about a 20%-35% chance, so it isn't painful to hear that your opinions are below 50%.

yep, I am going to finalize at slim but nonzero (with my admitted lack of knowledge about AA)

Well, the OOS acceptance rate is around 27%, but you aren't even in the top 25% overall of SAT or GPA, so I would say your chances are probably a little lower than 20%. As stated above, the C will hurt you. Being a URM may help, but because you are OOS and those spaces are limited, I wouldn't count on it. You can do it though! Just try and get your SATs up a lot, and work hard on senior grades. Make sure you have some solid safeties as well. good luck!

Wow, I didn't mean to sound ignorant. I had no idea that the OOS acceptance rate was 27%. Yea so ignore my previous opinion on percentage.

I'd say its a no. : (

lol u guys are too tough, this person is hispanic, he has a great chance. his sats are fine and ecs are too. the only thing major lacking is grades, and race makes up for that LOL u guys are crazy

If you were instate, I would say definitely. But being out of state, it may be a little harder. I'm hispanic also, and I got similar grades (including a C somewhere along the line). The only thing I think is a little iffy is the lack of all your classes being honors/ap on some level. That just may be how your classes are.
Don't let these people judge you too harshly.

We aren't being harsh, we're being realistic. I have a friend with higher SAT's and GPA who was Mexican and applied there OOS and was denied. Had better ECs too. Now, I'm not saying he has no shot, bc of course he does. All I'm saying is that even if you are a minority nowadays, you can't count on that to get you in. Also, the dean of admissions at UVA told me that they consider GPA, which is his weak spot, more heavily than SATs. Now, again, of course he CAN get in, but it doesn't help him improve his chances if we don't use constructive criticism. We're just trying to help him out.
