anyone use Tutorzone?

My son is looking for a tutor. Has anyone on here used Tutorzone?

I think they are downtown or near downtown?

He wants to use them for chem2045.

Tutoringzone is great, if you actually utilize the material they provide in conjunction with studying on your own. They really help to simplify and reinforce material learned in class. Tutoringzone is especially useful for your ‘math’ based classes, which include chem, physics, statistics, finance etc.

Studyedge recently opened up and they are right across campus instead of being in the midtown/downtown area of Gainesville. They are probably going to be Tutoringzones biggest competitor since they were started by former tutors from there. The prices are a bit lower too (most likely to entice new people to come try them out…).

Bottom line, Tutoringzone is more established than Studyedge. I haven’t tried Studyedge but I have seen their review packets and they look similar in structure to the Tutoringzone ones. If it weren’t for TZ I know I would have done absolutely horrific in my physics course.

I highly recommend them, there is a reason why they have expanded to multiple campuses from their humble beginnings at UF.

yankee boy I will have my son check studyedge as well. Since they are near campus they will be more convenient.

thanks for the advice

Tutoring Zone is good for CERTAIN classes. I used TZ once for my Calc class, and that ended up screwing me over in the end since TZ went over a lot of things that I didn’t need for the exam.

I prefer Study Edge since they offer you more tools such as study hours with their tutors so you can bring in HW and such to do with the tutors.

Overall, TZ and SE are good at certain classes, just got to figure which classes they are good at.

So for Calculus studyedge is the one.

What about chem2045?

Studyedge is just so convenient no need to catch the bus or drive your car.

I used StudyEdge for CHM2045. Rich, the tutor, is great. However, be warned that just going over the blue StudyEdge packet for this class is not enough, unless you have a great background in chemistry, of which I do not. It gives you a good basis of what is going to be on the test but to actually get the grade you would like to get, you have to understand the material and look over past examinations of the class to get a feel for what the test is like.

I strongly recommend it though! Without it I would have failed completely.

My S used Tutoring Zone last spring to study for PHY2045 final…he absolutely had a great time there! He couldn’t believe how funny and informative it was—it was a 3-4 hour review session and the instructor was so funny, my S had a really wonderful and laugh out loud great experience. It was everything he wanted and more. His roommate used TZ for a lot of difficult classes his freshman year. I know they have a free ride service called Gotcha that picks you up on campus and takes you to TZ and back. Tutoring Zone has a facebook page with up to the minute info on what is new, etc. Here is a link: [TutoringZone - UF - Home](http://tzuf.tutoringzone.com/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1)
Both my S and his roommate (both sophmores) highly recommend TZ…

First of all, StudyEdge is actually cheaper if you have other classes that they offer. $25 a month for 2 classes sounds pretty good to me. (Which would be about $50 at TZ).

Second, the tutor for Calc at TZ doesn’t really prep for the test but basically teaches the material ALL OVER AGAIN. StudyEdge’s tutor really goes over every single problem and situation that can be thrown at you, which for me is more useful than going over all of the material again. Plus, the TZ tutor tries to hard to be funny, which for me I can live without

Third, the study packets for both TZ and Study Edge are pretty much the same. They both include a Packet for the Instructor and Supplementary Problems and Solutions. I don’t get how one packet is better than the other except the way the information is presented.

Forth, Study Edge is actually pretty damn close to campus and in a pretty decent location by which I mean I can actually get food in-between breaks in the lecture. TZ is located in a very sketchy part of town with no place to go to eat. On top of that, the free service ride TAKES FOREVER since they have to go around and pick everyone up. You might actually end up missing a couple minutes of the review because of that.

Last point, Study Edge offers more services such as weekly reviews and study hours with there tutors in case you have questions on HW. TZ doesn’t really offer that, and even if they did not a whole lot of people would go since its pretty far from campus.

This is just based on my experiences with both companies. It is my honest OPINION, not a fact. You guys might think differently and that’s cool too. Just take my opinion for what its worth, I don’t work for either company. Just a student who tried both and this is what I got from each.
