I attend UW and plan to transfer to Emory due to financial reasons. I am serious about academics and am usually open (and make friends that way). I also care about a social life.

Can someone list the pros and cons of Emory? I have not visited the campus.

Thanks!

UW? University of Wisconsin? University of Washington? …?

If so, it’s hard for me to imagine that Emory is cheaper than a state school, unless Emory is giving you great financial aid.

Pros:
- Academic quality
- Great professors (for the most part)
- Small class size / student-to-faculty ratio
- Beautiful campus
- Great location (ATL rocks)
- Nice weather
- Friendly people
- Diverse student body
- Strong but not overwhelming Greek life
- Really strong DIII athletics programs

Cons
- Lacking in school spirit at times
- No DI athletics programs
- Food is OK. Not great.
- Expensive (although not compared to other similar schools).

University of Washington. And yeah, as an out of state student, Emory offers me 100% better financial aid.

UW has all of that plus D1 sports (I guess that’s only normal at a huge public school).

Thanks for the input. I’m just curious what it feels like to lack school spirit and be a much much smaller school. From my experiences so far at UW, I love the smaller classrooms. It’s just so much more interactive. I can actually stay awake at 8:30am lectures… lol

You will be able to maintain that experience here. Also, you’ll find that Emory has many talented teachers that know how to keep even a lecture hall style course interactive and engaged. It’s actually quite amazing. Emory has been putting much effort into maintaining teaching quality. It has paid off. So you won’t loose that.

I agree with bernie. Regarding school spirit, there’s a pretty obvious answer. Emory has a great campus community, but lack of a D1 basketball or football program means the campus does not “come together” either physically or in spirit as often as it does at other schools. Students probably experience the most unity at concerts and events like Wonderful Wednesday in Asbury Circle.
