Perhaps I am just nervous and anxious for the letter of appointment, but I recieved a letter of assurance in october guarenteeing an appointment pending a nomination. I recieved a nomination in early November from my MOC. I have been racing home to check the mail everyday and was curious if there is a set time for official letters of appointment or letters of rejection to be sent out and recieved. If anyone can help that would be much appreciated.

It’s USNA’s conspiracy to keep excellent, and as yet unappointed candidates working in school, keeping in good shape, and learning the USN way of “hurry up and wait.” Patience and consider how much more you’ll cherish that blue folder’s arrival when it might be in your mailbox. Merry Christmas! And here’s to your very happy New Year!

I guess the question is whether the MOC has informed Navy of your nomination yet or just informed you. If you look at your online application, does the nom come up? My son also had an LOA, and from the time the nom showed up until he received his actual appointment in the mail was only a week. Also, are you completely done with Dodmerb? Those are all I can think of.

thank you for your help i actually got the letter of appointment on christmas eve but thank you

^^^ congratulations!

You’re welcome, prep. Happy for your Christmas good news.

I’m new to CC and I don’t mean to hijack a thread but I have a quick question and would be grateful for any help. I have recieved a principle nomination from my Congressman and a competitive nomination from my Senator. I did not recieve a LOA (which I’ve been told is very common). My BGO has informed me that my application has gone to boards meaning I have been found 3QD. When do you think i will get an offical appointment from the academy? (assuming I maintain my triple qualified status)

Relatively soon. Next 6 weeks, I’d guess. And it’s that.

And you are correct when you note it is very common, the norm, for most candidates to NOT receive an LOA.

Thank you for your help.

Not to split hairs, especially for a new poster [welcome to cc!] but this is an important point to understand.

Please keep in mind that an application being reviewed by the admissions board does not mean the canidate is triple q’d [unless you have received a letter stating such]. What it does mean is that, simply, the file has gone before the board to be reviewed.

When the file has been reviewed, one of four things will happen.
- an appointment will be offered
- the candidate will be referred to NAPS or foundation
- the application will be rejected
- the decision will be deferred [ie: wait list- a very small one at that]

I will caution everyone that until the appointment arrives, there is no offer on the table. There is no way around it and no way to speed up the process. It is a waiting game for everyone.

Best of luck!
