Anyone waitlisted...

...been offered a spot yet?

no, I don’t think they’ll start sending stuff out till may if they go to the wait list.

not too many will wait til may to decide.

I know one person who was waitlisted and accepted the day before the accepted students thing

Well that’s nerve wracking haha. I called admissions the monday following the day I found out i was wait listed and they told me that they were probably going to the wait list if needed in early May after they’ve received everyone’s decisions.

offered a spot off the wait list as of april 8th. that was fast lol (only 2 days after the wait list review process began).

I received an email today:

“Thank you for your patience and for electing to keep Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute as your
first-choice school. If we are able to offer you a place in the Class of 2013 and you accept our
offer of admission from the wait list, you will also receive a minimum Rensselaer scholarship
of $5,000 each year, should you choose to matriculate at RPI.
Rensselaer provides financial support for students regardless of their means, even during the
harshest economic challenges. Through the generosity of our alumni, the Institute recently
exceeded a $1.4 billion fundraising goal with an emphasis on supporting scholarships. It is through
their support that Rensselaer will continue to invest in and enhance the education of our outstanding
students. You will be receiving documents in the mail shortly, which will detail all forms of available
financial support for you and your family, should you be admitted and matriculate at the Institute.
If you are planning to apply for additional need-based aid, please submit all relevant documentation,
including the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and the CSS Profile. Once your information is
received, the Office of Financial Aid will provide you with a revised award letter.
If the financial support described in this letter will enable you to attend and you would like to be called
from the wait list so that you can matriculate at Rensselaer, please simply e-mail me at [e-mail addy removed - Mod JEM].
Our wait list review committee has begun to meet and will meet weekly to review student files.
Once again, thank you for your interest in Rensselaer and your patience in this process.”

Does this mean I’m going to be accepted?
Hope so =)

hi
s got the same e-mail (different award figure) but I have to say I don’t know that it means you are going to be accepted, but it is likely they are coming down to “your” spot (however it is that they line these things up) and want to make sure you know there is an award if they do offer you admission so that you will not yet write them off and go elsewhere.
Gotta say , it is definitely something to consider but I have not heard of getting merit awards after coming off a waitlist before.

Not that I really know anything, but if you are really interested in RPI, it might help your cause if you got in touch with the school and let them know that. One might think that RPI would be more inclined to let someone in off of the wait list if that person contacted them and let them know how interested he/she is. It couldn’t hurt. Good luck!

the problem is, RPI does not encourage extra materials sent to them… so in other words, they do not want you to contact them… Has anyone got a call yet?

S heard today that he is being offered a place this fall

Congrats!! Now he has a decision to make…

Congrats!! Has he been offered any scholarship? And how much time did they give him to make his decision?

yes a sizeable scholarship but no deadline mentioned. I would suspect he needs to contact them within a few days
and we have unfortunately not had a chance to visit RPI.

theorymom – That’s great! My daughter really liked her visit and that helped with the final decision. Also they offered her good money…even with good money, however, it’s still a very expensive school but we hope it’s the right choice. Congratulations to you and your son.

Congratulations Theorymom! You could contact admissions for a deadline. The spring semester is just ending (last day of finals is this Friday :)) so it might be a good time. Will you be able to visit the school before making a decision or are you far away?

very far away :frowning:
West coast

Do anyone know how many students will be taken off the wait-list this year?

Last year it was 371 - don’t know about this year.

371…!!? Are you sure about this? In most other colleges, only about 70-80 students get accepted from the wl…
