With the economy being what it is and families educational accounts basically being cut in half expect a lot of people turning down private schools.
The wait list will come heavily into play this year.

There was actually a blog on CC a while back about how it was a good year to be rich foer this admmissions cycle.

@ Dadinator… Thanks…!!

XNYer, I hope you are right.

Last year, they let in 371 from the waitlist. The year before it was only 45 (item C2, page 7):

I just got the scholarship email for 18,000 a year…

So does that mean I have a spot?

Was it an e-mail saying that if they offer you a spot they will also offer you the award?

That is what S got and about a week later he got an offer of admission. So if it is the same e-mail (it is quoted within this thread on page 1) then I would say the chances are good you will get an offer of admission (though it is not guaranteed)

You MUST respond to it though, saying that the offer of merit aid is enough to want you to stay on the waitlist and that you will probably accept.

Congrats - you are probably going to get in!!!

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute plans to admit a very limited number of outstanding students
who were offered a place on our wait list in the coming week. Please reply to this email confirming
your interest, so that I can submit your name to our admissions committee. The committee will be
reviewing applicants immediately, and we will be contacting students with their financial aid awards
as they are admitted.

Thank you for your interest in RPI, and we look forward to hearing from you.

ok, that sounds nice

@ Tapout… I am wait-listed at RPI but I haven’t recieved this email… I think they are going to accept you…

I hope so. It’s just starnge to have so many different e-mails flying around.
Some mentioning aid, some not (like mine)

yes it is strange - I have never heard of anything like it before

Email does hint of scholarship when it says that we will be contacting students with their awards… Doesn’t it?

The only thing that I can think of is that one e-mail goes out to those who have already filled out their FAFSA & SAR for RPI (like mine) while the other goes out to those that still owe them financial aid info?

Hey guys,
I posted on page one saying that I was waitlisted. I was accepted off the waitlist on May 1st. I got the phone call about 2 hours after I submitted my enrollment deposit at Tulane University! The scholarship money still leaves a large payment, so I don’t think I’ll be considering RPI for next fall…

Just some advice for other waitlist-ees: they said I was a “priority applicant” so I had a good chance at getting off the waitlist from the beginning, but I thought I’d get in immediately. If you’re shocked at being waitlisted (ie very good grades, scores, and ecs) you have a decent chance at getting in.

I hope I get off the waiting list. I received my letter on May 8, with 18k minimum scholarship.

I receive the same email on May 8 as well. Can someone tell me how does RPI notify you that you’re admitted? I called them on Tuesday and they said they can give me the decision on Thursday, which almost ends now.

So it’s been well over one week since I received my e-mail asking me if I wished them to submit my application to the admissions committee.
Have heard absolutely nothing.
They must be going person by person down the waitlist and waiting for those individuals to send in their deposits before they move on to the next name on the list.
Frustrating.

Ya same here.
My second choice’s sir deadline is coming
I have no clue about RPI’s decision at all.
It’s really stressed for me

Did anyone hear any news from RPI this weekend?

I was in yesterday. Finally
