Anyone wanna help chance me?

Hey every one , anyone want to help chance me of getting into USF? Just visited yesterday and really liked the atmosphere.

Some Background: I am OOS ( Live in Georgia) , Black Guy , born in the UK and now a US Citizen, trying to get into USF for the Fall Semester of 2013.

Grades:

My GPA is a 3.156 ( I guess it's weighted but my school only gives us 1.0 added on AP classes , nothing added for Honors or anything else. Since I have taken so many Honors and AP classes hopefully this will go up a LOT.)

SAT: 1730 ( Math - 590 , Reading - 610 , Writing - 530)
(First try , didn't really study , taking it again in June along with the ACT in April and then again in June.

(1st and 2nd semester grade WITHOUT points added.)

Freshman Year:

Acting - 87/86
Health - 96
PE - 93
Honors Language Arts - 87/87
Algebra I - 86/85
Latin I - 85/77
Biology - 90/85
AP Human Geography - 85/79

Sophomore Year:

Honors Junior LA(Skipped Sophomore LA as part of a AP Track program) - 84/87
Honors Geometry - 82/79
Latin II - 76/82
Honors Chemistry - 84/86
A.P. World - 78/80
Video Broadcasting - 93/91

Junior Year(1st semester and 2nd semester grades as of now.)

A.P. Lit and Lang I - 82/83(Trying to get this to an A if I can manage it)
Honors Pre-Cal - 78/87(Trying to get this to an A)
Honors Physics - 90/83(Trying to get this to an A)
Web Design - 85/90
A.P. U.S. - 84/ 75.1 (I will get this up to a B without a doubt)
A.P. Comp Sci -68(1st year program , it's bad I know :/ ) / 70(Trying to raise out of the danger zone)

On top of all this I played J.V. Lacrosse for a year , and played club Lacrosse for three, as well as running my own small business online. Also a member of Latin Club for two years , won some award for a project in Video , and a member of TSA this year.

Anyone wanna tell me how I stack up? Also i was thinking of applying as soon as they open it up in July to have a better shot , is this a good idea? Thanks in advance!

I’ve got your USF GPA for all your core courses figured at 3.23. If you plug into attached matrix your current 3.23 GPA with 1730/1200 SAT here’s what USF says they’d do for fall 2012 (dark blue section)…fall 2013 could get tougher:

“With four or more Academic Success Factors, applicant may be offered alternative term admission¹. Otherwise,
with two to three ASFs, applicant will be deferred for first semester senior grades and encouraged to submit new
test scores. With fewer than two ASFs, applicant may be advised to seek admission through USF’s Summer Success
Programs or to another USF System institution² for consideration.”

So with the 3 ASF you now have (APs, math, science) USF would defer you and want fall grades and test scores. Get your SAT up a bit (especially writing to get another ASF), maybe take an additional year foreign language to get another ASF, and get best grades this spring and next fall.

USF is seeking more out-of-state students and URMs, so that could give you a positive bump. Apply as early as possible, try to get your app in before Sept. You visited on the right day Friday, the weather was beautiful in Tampa. Good Luck and glad to hear you enjoyed your visit to USF!

http://usfweb2.usf.edu/Admissions/pdf/counselor-grid.pdf

my advice is to get yout GPA up! you need A’s, A’s and more A’s… if you look at the chart that Lizard was talking about, you will see that a 3.00 is at the VERY BOTTOM… and a B is a 3.00! in order to bring up your GPA you need to shoot for nothing but A’s from here on out, starting this year with your current classes.

The weight your school assigns to your classes is irrelevant: USF will weigh all classes their way. Anyways, the easiest way I see for you to get in is to aim for a higher GPA, and then raise that writing score just a bit. Do as many practice tests as you can, and I found a Sparknotes on the writing section, that really helped. And of course, if you apply for Summer, you have higher chances of getting in, according to that grid lizard posted above.

Hey can you guys chance me?

Chance me, guys! (Please, lol)

Summer 2013!

Cumulative GPA: 3.22
Academic GPA: 3.6
Weighted GPA: 4.38
Top 10%

SAT: 1040 (LOW, I know -_-)

Volunteer: 340+
Church/hospital

Clubs: NHS, key club, aquarium club, yearbook, E.R Ambassadors, NSHSS

All honors classes, 4 AP, 2 community college classes

Minority. Did the optional essay.

How many of those academic success factors did you have? There is an eligibility grid, though I think you have more of a chance at UCF.

For anyone wondering , I just got accepted! Go Bulls!!

Congrats! Go Bulls!

Piece of advice for everyone applying to USF. They use a rolling admissions process and although you may not get in during the first few months of applying, keep trying and resubmit any new improve SAT scores which will help your position. Also many of the accepted applicants that were accepted by USF will most likely decline their USF acceptance in both December and February when FSU & UF acceptances are posted, thus freeing up more spots for USF hopefuls.
