Anyone want to sell their AC transit pass?

I don't know if it's even possible, but I'm interested in buying an AC transit pass sticker if anybody has one. I'm willing to pay $50 for it.

darnnn it. would totally sell you mine, but i currently have a registration block and i won’t be able to get mine until the middle of this month. Sorry. :[

Oh, and it’s possible. I think it’s technically illegal (as is pirating), but people do it anyways with no ramifications.

Yes, it is technically illegal but people do it anyway xD
Just curious, why can’t you get one? I thought it was free for all paying UC students? Unless you’re not a paying UC student…? or want it for someone else? :P

I think she lost hers

Ohhhh you can’t get new stickers if you…?? That sucks xD

^ Just to note, the transit pass is not free. It’s a mandatory fee that’s automatically sifted into your CARS bill (the transit free might actually be stated distinctly on the bill rather than hidden in the reg. fees; I don’t really remember).

^ yeah. we all paid $68 for it, if I recall correctly…

I sent you a message.

OP graduated. c’mon now.

Dam Its Johnny, I didn’t get your message.

Not that it really matters to me, but I don’t think you can even consider reselling the sticker “illegal” since there is no law or contract that prohibits it.

Daily Cal did in article on it last year. It’s a big problem on campus and definitely illegal.

But whutevs, I say.

I didn’t think selling your own sticker would be the big problem. I thought the problem would be those people replicating the sticker and then selling them. And with so many students here, I’m sure there’s one person smart enough to replicate those stickers.

@Liquidus and @DamItsJohnny:
I think I must have gotten the message by mistake? lol, cuz I got one this morning xD

^ My bad I sent it last night when I was tired.

Making a good replication of the sticker is hard, but making a passable replication is actually extremely simple. However, replication / selling of the stickers is illegal, and for good reasons too.

One of the reasons why these bus passes are so cheap (and also mandatory) is that they consider how much the average student would use the bus. Chances are, they stay near campus and only go on short segments of a few buses that run near campus. The usage is usually irregular too. As a result, it’s possible to provide these cheap passes while not having those lines go over capacity.

The average non-student, on the other hand, uses routes that have lesser capacity, travel longer distances, and travel more regularly. If everyone used the sticker, those routes will easily be over-capacity and require more buses (higher expenses) to operate.

lol, liquidus. The bus drivers don’t even check for the sticker. They check for the uc berkeley id. I guarantee you they will let you use it. Just put your thumb over the sticker if you’re scared.

^ Definitely not true.

They check for the color of the sticker so all you need is a sticker with the same color to be honest.

I’m actually interested in buying someone’s sticker if they don’t need it as well.

PM me!

Looks like a hobo somehow got on the internet…hmm

One time I accidentally had my finger over the sticker and sure enough, the bus driver asked me to see it. Apparently they do give a hoot about the sticker color. Only a matter of time before they run out of colors to choose from… right?
