So I'm in a huge predicament. I got 41/100 on the first test, then about 41/120 on the second test. The third test was out of 140.. not sur what I got but prbly not too much better. I REALLY REALLY REALLY HAVE to pass this class.. (can't believe my standards have dropped that much).. the class is out of 600 points and the coursepack says the professors will bump you up if you show improvement. Well I havent shown improvement over the last couple tests.. but I really need to ace the final. Any tips?

What is the trouble you have in the class (Mechanisms, naming, synthesis, or reactions)?

reactions/mechanisms (SN1, SN2, E1, E2, electorphilic addition). Test was today. Don't think I did too well. This class blows.

From what I've heard about this class, many people are having trouble.

I am curious: is the final grade going to be determined on the curve or not? Also, is it true that the coursepack is not helpful in preparing for the exams?

Predator, if I remember correctly from another thread, you scored very high on the SAT, so I'm pretty shocked you're not doing well in Orgo. You're definitely not studying correctly. Here are the two things I did to get very good grades in both semesters of organic:

1) Go to lecture everyday. Take very good notes. I would sometimes go to two different lectures a day (with different professors) to get a good handle on the material. This was really helpful.

2) Work on the coursepack every day for about 30-45 mins, preferably right after lecture. Do not go to the professor, office hours, open discussion etc. to get help until you have atleast tried each problem. This is key. A lot of people just get the answers and end up doing poorly on the exams because they're just memorizing the answers and not understanding them.

If you just put in 30-45 minutes a day everyday for this class, you can easily get an A. It's all about being consistent with your studying.

Predator, did you find out what happened with exam three? Hopefully, it was OK.

the average on the 3rd test was 51% :D

why a big smiley. it should be more like :(

Yes, exam 3 was my worst so far :( I did way worse than the average. I need to study my ass off for the final.

I was expecting to get an 80% but got much lower than that...

Last year supposedly 64% in this class equaled a B.

Does anyone know what was the cutoff for passing?

The coursepack says 40-60% generally is a C and 60-80% is a B.

Thank you.

There is still hope, even though a "C" may not exactly what one wants :(

I hopefully end up with a B instead of a B-, a 2.7 GPA in a 4 credit class is going to ruin my science GPA.

Ha I might even end up with a C... thats a 2.0 lol.

The final wasn't too bad, hopefully I pulled off that B
