I sent in my FAFSA in jan but was selected for verification in which I was required to turn in the tax transcript. Due to some delays, we will not be able to obtain the tax transcript until middle of May, after the decision deadline. I had contacted UT and they had said they would not be able to release even an estimate of my package until they’ve received the transcript. I contacted them again asking if my sending the last required item (tax transcript) by around mid May would result in a significantly impacted package (grants -> loans). They said grant funding is limited and there is a possibility that certain grant accounts will already have been awardedby the time they are able to give me my package. My EFC is pretty low (couple thousands at most) but how likely do you think it is that UT will have run out of most grant funding such as the federal pell grant or the texas grant by the time they are able to offer me aid since they said there was a “possibility”. (it takes 2-3 wks to process after they receive the transcript) (even if I turned in FAFSA in the beginning of January)?
I know ut is not known for meeting full need and I do regret not having ensured that they received the transcript earlier although it ultimately came to be out of my control, but I also have another option that I’d been leaning towards. (this situation seems to be confirming my inclination). I just wanted to see if anyone else might have insight on how things might turn out regarding grant availability
I lost out on the Texas Public Grant because of some confusion involving my selective registration, but they still have alright money, just not as much as other schools.
I had the same issue but the man I talked to was really nice and he talked to the people in charge of the tax stuff at UT. They let me see what I would be getting from UT based on my FAFSA for financial aid but put a financial aid bar on it. I can accept my award but I can’t have any of it until I turn in the transcript.
Also, I called again and the lady told me it doesn’t matter how long I wait to turn it in, it won’t affect my aid. The only thing that will is if the transcript it different than what you put on FAFSA.
Maybe try calling again and seeing if they’ll do that instead?
Gah I wish someone had told me something like this earlier… I ended up just committing to th other school which I’m super excited about but it would’ve still been nice to see what I could’ve gotten here, package wise… I guess I could’ve called but I ended up just leaving it after the email…
