Anyone who took Calculus BC last year??

Hey, I'm jumping up from regular precal... So any tips? I know it's gonna be rough..

Learn the material before you take the course

Took it as a freshman (2 years ago)
If you’re a math person, or willing to put in the effort, you’ll be able to understand it easily. You COULD (not mandatory at all) go through basic differentiation/integration if you want just so you have a foothold on fundamental concepts before starting the class.
If your school is structured so students just go precal->BC i assume the BC class is taught in a way that not taking AB puts you at a disadvantage.

I am JUST now starting to realize how important school is… as a rising senior… really depressing…

my math course throughout highschool kind of reflects my “waking up”
mine-
fresh- Alg. 1 Pre-AP
soph- Doubled up (Geometry/Alg II. Pre-AP)
junior- regular Precal (got an A+)
senior- BC calculus

usually for BC kids it goes–

fresh-Alg. II Pre-AP
soph-Precalculus Pre-AP
junior- AB Calc
senior- BC Calc

I have downloaded the MIT single variable calculus lectures… I’m DEFINITELY willing to put in the work, and I am a math person… Any other tips?

I didn’t like the mit lectures, I think they’re geared to a level of thinking beyond ap level (not that that’s bad!) but try using khan academy videos, they cover the material perfectly.

Good luck :stuck_out_tongue: I would suggest learning basic derivative/integration rules at the AB level over the summer. I took AP Calc AB last year, and i’m gonna take BC this year, and AB provides a great background in the subject (and pretty much half the information), so you will be at a disadvantage if you walked into the classroom with NO Calculus knowledge.

I also skipped from precal to Calc BC, last year. However, my class was structured so that we learned all of AB in the first semester, and all of BC in the second semester. Skipping from precal to BC is common at my school, so they accommodate for that by teaching AB at the beginning of the BC course. Of course, people who had taken AB the previous year are pretty bored the first semester. If your school does the same thing, then don’t worry about doing any preparation. If they go directly to the BC material, I recommend learning how to differentiate and integrate.
