Here’s a short summary (responding to the first prompt):
I begin with a short anecdote about a family reunion i went to recently. I learned that my family is poor and no one in my family has any formal education past high school. They live a difficult and stressful life. It was a humbling experience for me.
My family isn’t successful. My dad and his brothers barely graduated high school and they didnt even bother to go to college. Regardless, Im asian, so while my parents werent academically inclined themselves, they still forced me to study everyday. I talk breifly about my life up to sophomore year, about all the nagging and yelling, etc. Junior year, they chilled out for some reason and I became more independent. Better grades, good ACT scores, always studying on my own, and doing everything on my own. I came to realize that my parents didnt yell at me everyday because they hated me or because they lived a hard life so wanted to give me a hard life. They just didnt want me to become unsuccessful like them. They wanted me to thrive and succeed.
