My daughter who is the editor in chief for her school newspaper (she is going to major in English) refused to let me read her essay before she sent it. When I finally read it (after she sent it in for early action), I found two mundane but obvious grammatical mistakes. She was devastated. She figured she had no chance of getting accepted into this great school. But guess what, she got accepted with scholarship.

Anyway, I am not saying you can get away with holes in your essay. But your essay is not the sole decision maker. Nevertheless, you should have someone, perhaps a teacher or other adults to proofread yours. Your classmates and friends probably will not contribute much, as most of them may not have the maturity or worse yet, will not harshly comment on your essay.

If you don’t mind a honest but a harsh critique, I don’t mind reading and correcting your essay.

BTW, I am a parent and I worked in high tech marketing for the last 20 years.
