I have been accepted into the Honors Program and I recently went to go see the campus and loved it. My problem is that there was practically no information on students majoring in Biology (Microbiology/Genetics NOT Conservation) and the kinds of research opportunities available for them. Also, it seemed like Neuroscience was a relatively new major at GMU and that makes me think that it will be difficult to make connections. The other schools I'm considering are Rutgers (my state school) and NYU. I liked the campus and the people at GMU but I want to make sure I will be making the right choice academically.

I too have been accepted into GMU Honors and am trying to decide between VT and JMU. I have eliminated the other colleges and am not staying on the wait list for the higher ranked VA schools. I am a bio major in a pre-health track hoping to go to med school, PA school or possibly PT school. GMU seems to offer all the classes needed to accomplish this major as well as lots of options in other disciplines such as Psyc and Kinesiology which add depth to the Bio major. I think the advantage of the Honors College and potential internships will be an asset when applying to grad school. If anyone has anything to add I would welcome the input as I see I am not the only one trying to make this difficult decision.

I’m going to Mason this Fall to study Neuroscience and hopefully Minors in Pyschology and Math! I also want to go to Med School. Have you visited Mason and the other schools’ campuses? How do you think they feel? I know one thing I really like about Mason is the OSCAR program that can get you into doing real research that you can put on your applications, and that can also get you really into the field (of Medicine even) that you’re really interested in. There also might be more opportunity for GMU Honors students than for VT or JMU students, since the Honors population is more select, so that’s also something to consider. Just my thoughts.
