Hello,

I have a very messy transcript. I took college courses in high school at BU, with a GPA of 3.3, and then went off to McGill University which I could not afford, had a 3.4 the first semester and full incompletes (0.0) the second, and left. Since then I've applied to other liberal arts programs with no luck, and have been taking 3 courses at Harvard Extension School (night school) to show on my record that I am a hard working student still capable of achievement. It's a hard situation to be in!

At this point, I can only afford schools with in-state tuition (Massachusetts) and am strongly considering applying for a graphic design program, because I think that suits my interests better than liberal arts. I have the beginnings of a portfolio, although there's tons of work left to be done... looking at MassArt and UMass Dartmouth right now.

I'm wondering if any of you have experience transferring to a design program without any college level visual arts courses. What was it like? How did you approach your application? Should I take one or several independent courses at MassArt before applying?

Thanks,

Reif
