Hi, I was just wondering if there is anyone out there who has learning disablities and has applied to Grad School. Hopefully someone can provide some advice.

Not everyone who goes to grad school is a fast learner or learns easily, that much I do know. Even I fall under that category (though I don't have a learning disability), and my goal is to eventually get a Ph.D.

I have heard of someone with a learning disability, I think dyslexia, who struggled through school and for many years thought she wasn't college material, so she never even bothered applying. However, when she was 30, she did apply and started working on her bachelor's degree. I think certain things were done to accommodate her needs - she used extra tapes and such to help her learn. She completed her bachelor's degree in six years, then started working on her master's degree, which took another three years. It probably took a lot of effort and determination, but she did succeed at that.

As

i have a grad student friend with an LD at yale and another at UPenn.

I have dyslexia and will begin a Master's degree this fall in the UK. For my undergraduate I had extra time in the exams (10 minutes per hour). No idea what provisions I will have for the postgraduate.

I'm just wondering about the application process....do I mention my ADHD? I have two Bachelor's degrees....the first one was before I got treatment for the ADHD and my GPA is very low. I eventually sought treatment and went back for another degree, this time getting a 3.706 GPA. I will probably have to explain the reason for the low GPA and I just hope that it doesn't hurt my chances of getting accepted somewhere.

ADHD is technicallly not a learning disability...its actually behavior.

You might want to mention it to serve as an explanation for the difference in grades, otherwise admissions committee members will make their own conclusions.

They should take note of your improvment- in your favor.

Don't dwell on the past though.. focus on keeping up your grades, getting good recs, and writing a stellar personal statement

I have a math learning disability ,idk how to go back to school, I’m 19, I wanna be an ot but would I make it ?
