My EFC is about 23K. I did not get my financial aid package and I was wondering if they basically just give you 5500 in federal loans since your EFC surpasses the cost of attendance.

Not this year, because I will have 2 kids in SUNY (if the 2nd chooses to go to Bing) so EFC is now $15000-

But last year my EFC was over $20,000 (1 kid in different SUNY) and FA offer was 2 loan offers for about $6500 in total for the year. SUNY offers tend to be identical (or VERY close) excluding any scholarship offers.

My younger son (accepted to Bing) got 2 SUNY FA offers so far- They were identical except for the scholarship offer. His seem to offer 2 student loans (approx $5500 per year) and a $10,000 parent loan.

If you have received any FA offers from other SUNY schools- they will probably be similar.

Still waiting for packages from Stony Brook and Bing

hope this helps :)

Thank you! That helped a lot. So far I got no scholarships at all from SUNY. I just received $5500 in federal unsubsidized loans.

Just got email notification tonight - $5500 unsubsidized loans.

$5,550 in stafford loans…

You guys didn’t get a work study? I got stafford + a 1500 work study

work study is based off of EFC and need.

Ah I see thanks for clearing that up, I wasn’t sure what was needed to get it since I didn’t get any other aid aside from the Stafford loans.
