Has anyone got a way to convert HSEB percentage to a 4 point GPA?? I know its not important n da transcripts would do fine but I just wanna kno how I stack up against US high school students...PS any help is goon a be appreciated coz m applying for the 2014 session!

Hey man I am also in the same shoes…The grading system of US is different from ours…Even though we give our 100 percent in exam we end up with below 85(generally)…
My grade 11 percentage was 74.6 and grade 12 percent was 81…whereas in US the grading is in a 4.0 scale which in US has scaling like

95-100–4.0
85-94–3.5
75-84–3.0
65-74–2.5

So it can clearly be seen how liberal the high schools of US are in giving marks above 95 to students whereas in our country its literally impossible to death(Thanks to Nepali and biology classes esp)

P.S I am too applying for fall 2014…Which universities are you considering?? nd whats your hseb percentage??

Oh I m waiting for my coleg results bro…just gave the 12 exams…well 73% in 11 …n don’t know how much in the twelfth!! Hoping for better… n as college search goes I haven’t begun…how about u?? Got a list yet… if yes pls suggest me some too!!

Okay basically looking at your percentages I think you and me are on same league…You obviously will improve your percentage by 6-7. If you don’t have any significant achievements like medalist in physics olympiad, mathematics olympiad or any other international level competitions forget MIT. I am considering following(sabai need based aid wala hun)

U of Richmond, Princeton, Yale, Harvard, Dartmouth, Stanford, Duke, Rice, Cornell, Columbia, Brown, UPenn, Trinity college, Harvey mudd, Claremont McKenna, Amherst, Colgate, lehigh

Cool…! But most those colleges r ivy leagued man…ain’t no way there’s gonna be easy to get into…n the other ones r just as competitive!! Mayb u ought to apply to some okayish n safe colleges too…u kno just in case…! Dats what I’ve planned though not started my college search yet!!! N wat bout majors…?? Decided yet?? Coz I haven’t!!

Ya I too have some safe colleges in mind…My major would be comp science…

Oh ok!! I’d rather u told me da safe colleges…da ivies are known to most!!

These are my college searches but I will shortlist them after getting SAT and TOEFL results and through USEF advisers too…

Most of those colleges provide good average financial aid too…!!! Except a few…but those ones r good too!! N Wellesly… dat wouldn’t be apt for me…!! Its a unisex college for females…! :D

hahaha…hora??..teso vaye not on my league too… :P

Yup!! Wellesly is a women only coleg!! :D:D:D

One of the USEF advisors studied at Wellesly if I remember correctly!

Wellesly, Smith, Mt. Holyoke, Bryn Mawr = Women only
Hampden Sydney College = Men only

Some schools on that long list don’t give that much aid. Go for private colleges.

Tnx for dat info mate!! U were apply for da class of 2013…where’d u get into?? (I assume u did)

I’m a member of the class of 2014.

Oh sure thank you for the suggestion!!

fyi, I say that because you really need to get into the habit. You don’t want to accidentally slip in a few unprofessional words while emailing college counselors. Besides, being professional is important, in person and in writing.

Well that’s true! Thanks again!

Guys just so you know, Rice university doesn’t accept application fee waiver from International students. That means, with your application you are required to submit the application fee of $75 (around…not sure about the exact amount) . Also , I have heard that Rice university doesn’t offer much aid to internationals for undergraduate level. Last year some of my friends had applied to Rice, only to realize all this later. So please do enough research before applying to colleges.
