Does anyone know the isbn number for the student solutions manual for Math 31B? My textbook for that class is Stewart Calculus 5th ed. but I'm not sure which ones of the stewart student solutions manual matches with that textbook.

im pretty positive its 0534393691

thanks, i really appreciate it :)

I don't think it's required to buy the solution manual. + you can get it from other "sources" hint hint

Kaligirl, I have a copy of the Stewart calculus book, that I'd be willing to sell for a very fair price. I also have a pdf file with the full solutions to every problem in the book. Send me an email to Jshifton@ucla.edu if you're interested. I can deliver the book anywhere on campus, or can ship it if you would like.

By the way, for those in Gelbart's Chem 20A class, I also have the Oxtoby text and the matching solutions manual. I'll be willing to sell for a very fair price.

speaking of Gelbart, how is he as a teacher for Chem 20A? i chose Scerri over Gelbart.

Good choice westow- Scerri was easy imo for a chem teacher. Don't even purchase the chem book, all you need for scerri is his reader, which contains all his transparency lectures. He started asking application questions instead of pure regurgitation questions, but nothing a little application wouldn't get you through. His cockiness is hilarious, as well as his jokes. Pretty entertaining class with random demos.

lol nice. but u also learn in his class right? haha yea i want to learn!

how do u get readers, since they aren't in the UCLA store thingy?

If you took AP Chem, you won't learn much at the beginning, but thats because he has to catch everyone up and it is the beginning course after all. Towards the end, you learn intro organic chem, but this is the basics of the basics and memorization basically at this early point.

You have to purchase the readers at a special store in westwood, which is close to rite-aid (you'll know when you see the line, especially if you go after the first day of class). Just go to rite aid and its the small store like 2 doors down.

bah! so i don't need the zumdalh chem book? I just purchased it.gah.....

Oh yeah..i have sceri too

one more edit..haha

I hope the book will be put to good use after chem20a.

thank you. but what exactly are readers?

ya about that... does 20B continue on with the same book? or depends on prof?

Readers are just a collection of the professor's notes in one handy book for gen chem so instead of focusing on writing during lectures, you can actually focus on what the professor has to say. For other classes, like the GE freshmen clusters, they're a collection of articles/short stories all in one book, so instead of having to purchase or print all those individual articles or stories yourself, you have it all in one bound book (which may or may not fall apart easily on you depending on how large it is and how you handle/care for it while you transport it around.

I know scerri used the zumdahl book while others like baugh used the oxtoby textbook. You will never use it again after gen chem (2 whole classes). And the textbook depends on the professor. I had baugh for 20b and I actually needed the oxtoby textbook since the quizzes were based on the questions at the end of the chapter (plus baugh wasn't exactly a coherent lecturer so I self-learned out of the book...).
