Wow thanks a lot i didn’t know that. i was really sad that i had a 2.96 and i was so close. So i’m glad i applied anyways. What do they mean finish all Major prereqs though for a Bio Major. I may be missing 1 or 2 prereqs by the end of spring

@kc20cali

Yeah, I thought so, this tag crap is super frustrating.

@ pianocat
This is what it says on the UCI TAG brochure for the School of Biological Sciences

Complete one year of general chemistry and lab with a grade of B or better in each course
Complete one year of general biology with lab equivalent to UC Irvine’s BIO SCI 93, 94, and 100 lab with a grade of C or better in each course as articulated at [Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org)

I suggest you go to assist and check what classes you need in order to transfer to UCI as a bio major. Assist is really helpful, it shows you all the classes you need to take before transferring.

You will probably have to meet the two requirements listed above in order to get in that school and also the additional classes you need to take as a bio major. Check assist, it is the most helpful site ever, especially for us UC transfers.

Also, if you don’t finish these pre-req’s before spring 2011 your tag has a high possibility of getting denied because it is one of the conditions they listed to maintain your guarantee admission.

Best of luck!

thanks again, i know about assist i’m just a bit worried because i don’t think i will be able to finish my physics series in time before i transfer. I’ve talked to some transfer councilors and they told me missing a couple prereqs won’t hurt you can just finish it when you transfer but i don’t know anymore.

^^
i think you should call or visit UCI and ask them, that’s the only way you will know for sure here is the information i found on the transfer brochure:

Walk-in Counseling
UCI offers walk-in counseling to prospective California community college transfer students on most Fridays, 1-3 p.m., in the Undergraduate Admissions Office, 204 Aldrich Hall. To ensure a counselor will be available, please call (949) 824-6703 prior to visiting the campus.
It is helpful if students bring transcripts to these general advisement sessions, even if unofficial.

hope it is helpful

@hh9566:hey do you how SB is strict about prereqs?ill be missing like 6 or 5 if i transfer.im a chem major and it asks to also apply to some creative studies thing besides the UC application.im like “WTH?” because I checked it out and it is some weird program for graduate and undergrad students but i just want to get in at a regular undergrad progam.I laso have the same issue with low GPA(3.01 but may be 3.06 for Fall).i mainly ask you because you’re a bio major and saw that bio is also under creative studies for SB.

I think they are telling you that it will be easier if you apply as a Creative Studies major and you will have more chances of getting the TAG since you have so many pre-requisites that you need to complete.

^isnt the biology creative studies for amazing students who have the ability to do their own research and stuff? Not a bio major or anything, but I think my sis looked into that program…

@ ray7863
I’m not a bio major anymore but I was going to be so I did a lot of research before hand, anyways I think that all the UC schools are pretty strict about the pre-req’s, and also 5-6 is quite a few, but i don’t know for sure i think the best way is to contact them:

[Chemistry-Biochemistry University of Calfornia Santa Barbara](http://www.chem.ucsb.edu/undergraduate/advisors.shtml)

And about the creative studies program it is a more prestigious program then the regular undergrad programs, if they told you to apply maybe you can give it a shot

Also, you would need to have a 3.2 by the end of fall 2010 so a 3.06 for the end of fall 2010 is not good enough, your TAG might get denied because it says on the TAG brochure that:

The following GPA requirements apply for the College of Letters and Science TAG. Applicants must:

Earn an overall minimum 3.20 GPA in all UC transferable course work by the end of fall 2010

Good luck!

So tomorrow, allegedly, Davis sends out it’s yays or nays, someone said?

@ray7863 I got accepted into UCSB with 3 missing pre-req courses, but with 60 transferable UC credits and IGETC complete.

You may be placed in a pre-major status, but, in all honesty, you should contact SB’s chemistry department for these questions.

@zambon

Yeah apparently, it said 12am for the expected release, don’t know if that means at midnight or just in the morning time, though.

so for the bio major (or any science major) at SB, at assist it says gen chem 1&2, and gen bio 1&2 is required prior admission, what if you are missing one? does that work against you?

Looks like I’ll be up tonight then waiting for Davis. I’m also currently writing my PS; gonna submit tomorrow :P

I highly doubt they will release decisions at midnight… hopefully they’ll release them some time in the morning… and not in the evening. Can’t wait!!:)

^brave! dont want someone to read your statement over? lol…i have had a teacher and my sis read mine so far, and now im rewriting to show them again!

@harlequin:done with IGETC and by the end of this Fall semester ill have 61 UC transferable units.just working purely on my major now.

@hh9566:will contact tomorrow.hope they are open tomorrow.
the creative studies is a more prestigious program, which unfortuantely i was not aware of since here at my cc they did not mention it and most advisors said not to place letters of recommendation to the UC application but you do need it in the Creative Studies for SB.
My GPA is what also bugs me for applying for SB.they should of looked at that GPA right away and deny me for TAG but now this is so confusing…

Im a student at UNR and I was thinking about transfering to UNLV. Is the social work program any good or should I just stay at UNR?

Mmm UNLV.

I know nothing about programs at UNLV, but it’s surprising that the campus life sucks there, because with a little tweaking it’d be pretty awesome.

Does anyone happen to know what is the grade-point requirements for the major of Cell/Molecular biology at Cal? Since i heard that the MCB Department will be the one making those decisions.
