has brown sent out anything after the initial acceptance package?..i’d like to know more about housing and stuff…so just wondering…

I got a letter from my admissions rep and a letter from Ruth Simmons.

yeah i got those too...it's nice to get letters like that...make you feel special...!!!

yea, the letter from the admissions officer,
so it was a stock letter with a personalized message on the bottom written by hand?
thats how mine was, and the coolest part of all, it was written in RED
what about you guys?

once i sent back my card to reserve my spot in the class, i got a huge book all about brown as well as all the housing/health stuff and a booklet for my parents

Mine was written in blue :)

hmm... im sure my red was was more asthetically appealing, but thats just my opinion, haha. did everyone get something like that, cause it must have been alot to write

I got one (as did everyone, most likely). However, it didn't impress me much because the personalized comments were very superficial and didn't even seem as if they were written by someone who read my application. However, the adcoms are VERY busy, and it was VERY nice to have a nice note at the end. Besides, few schools do that. (Bowdoin, however, has a FULLY personalized acceptance letter.)

mine was personalized, she talked about how she enjoyed meetingme at school and thought i offered a different point of view and that brown and i would match well together and that she looked foward to seeing me in the fall...but im sure she could have dictated it or gave some notes... oh well..ill live

I got a letter from the music and comp sci departments.

I got a letter from the physics department today!! I feel special! lol

since all u guys got acepted (congratulations!). I was wondering if anyone could tell me what they thought or what they did helped them stand out (essays, tournaments, recs, devotion to activity...) Thanks! sorry to intervene.

atlantiz: after going through the whole college process this past year or so...and asking questions on cc similar to the ones you are asking the best advice i can give you is that it seems really daunting but in the end it really isn't....i mean you're probably thinking (as i did a few months back) that to get into good schools you have to be special in some way but now i realize that you really don't...all you have to do is be honest about what you've done and convey that through really sincere essays...i know you've heard this over and over again but it really is true that you cannot predict decisions...but anyway...it just amazes me that all of us go through the same thing and have others who've done it before us tell us what i've just said but it never really sinks in till you experience it yourself...i guess my response to your question is that my essay was very personal and i think it gave them a good idea of my stand on issues...again your theme doesn't have to be very original...mine definitely wasn't as it was about different cultures and stuff but i think because i really believed what i wrote..it was convincing...in addition..a good gpa/scores can only help...work hard on those essays...again...i haven't told you anything that you haven't already seen on these boards but the point i'm trying to make is that you just have to be honest in your essays and tell them about things that matter to you...!! and then leave the rest to god/fate whatever you believe in.....good luck!

wow shjanama77! thanks for the long/detailed post. Its exciting for me to get a long reply, especially cus i just started doing cc. Can u comment on my thread (curious 06er) too? I think ur advice would be really valuable to me. THanks!

also, my guidance counselor says if I got some Bs or a C than im automatically out, and wont be considered for acceptance in top schools such as brown. Is this true? she says thats how they weed out applicants first before going into essays, recs, etc.

lol...i'm glad my post helped...well as far as grades go i think getting a C could be a potential problem...b's (although should be avoided if possible) are not as bad...i have a few friends who got into really good schools with b's on their transcript but ofcourse they were really strong applicants overall...see i feel that extracurriculars/leadership/volunteer work can be looked at subjectively...what might be a lot for someone might not be so in someone else's eyes...but a good gpa is a good gpa...there are no two ways about that...so that's one area that you should really try to do well in...it will only help you...!

no offense, but i dont think your councelor is doing a very good job. its not all about the grades, its about potential and character. i got a c fortrig (it was a fluke and the teacher refused to fix it, i fought it out with superintendant and he still wouldnt budge) andi got in. dont listen and just try

It's probably more difficult to get in if you have a less-than-perfect transcript, but if you can compensate with good test scores, EC's, character, etc, you'll have a great shot. And the truth is, you'll have a shot no matter what, so long as you apply.

I got a B+ in honors geo and a B+ in an elective writing class in frosh year, and I got in.
