Below is the list of things to bring for orientation. Did USC leave anything out, or is this list pretty sufficient. Also, since orientation participants will be sleeping in the college residence halls for one night, does USC provide proper bed equipment (bed sheet, blanket, etc.)? I just want to make sure I have at least a somewhat enjoyable experience at orientation, haha.

* Orientation session confirmation letter (You will receive an online confirmation letter after you have successfully completed your reservation. Be sure to print this letter and bring it as proof of your reservation)
* Letter of Admission and all other pertinent correspondence from USC
* Casual attire, jacket and comfortable shoes
* Driver's license or similar picture I.D.
* Social Security number
* Two No. 2 pencils and a ballpoint pen
* Prior college course work documentation
* Unofficial transcripts from previous colleges
* Backpack or book bag
* Measles immunization verification
(deliver to the Student Health Center)

Their list looks pretty good to me. USC provides a blanket, pillow, and set of sheets for staying overnight in the dorms.

USC does provide sheets, pillow slip, for bedding.

Since you asked about bedding, i assume that you will be staying overnight, therefore...

You may already have it on your list, but if not: toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, deodarant, towel, other personal bathroom items). Also, alarm clock (so you will wake up in time for Breakfast, etc.).

You may wish to brnig you belongings in one overnight type bag or duffle bag, and bring along a separate light weight backpack. They (USC) give you lots of handouts. If you checkin early, you can put the huge USC Catalogue up in your dorm room, with your other overnight belongings. Then, you carry the backpack, with ALL of the bullet items that you list above.

Lastly, when you get your name badge (that you will wear around your neck). Be sure to keep it with you (don't leave it in the dorm). They will send you back to the rooom for it, even if you are clear across campus. They require it for many sessions - especially Registration.

Good luck, and have fun.

Yes, USC provides linens and such. You won't be needing a blanket; in fact, a fan is more reasonable.

As for the list, it's fairly complete. I brought everything, but I only needed my pencil and backpack. I would recommend bring a few bottles of water, because you will get thirsty, and the vending machines are expensive.

Thanks a lot, guys! I really do appreciate the help from you fellow Trojans.

The bed sheets and pillow feel like they were made from paper, so it might be a good idea to bring your own if you have room.

My daughter brought her own pillow just because she'd heard they weren't the greatest, but you could make do with what they provide. She also brought her own blanket in her duffel bag, but it was too hot to need it. She said the rooms were REALLY hot -- she wants to take both a regular size and a miniature desk fan when she moves in next month. :)

A backpack to carry all the stuff they give you is a must!

Does anyone know how much (approximately) it costs to take a taxi from LAX to USC? Daughter coming in for orientation, I think that is the quickest way. Want to be sure she has enough $$

I remember cab fare being between $25 and $30. There are also shared van options that will take you to campus for $15.

However, the van takes a bit longer than a cab because of all the other people riding, and they will often circle the airport several times looking for more passengers.

If you're not familiar with LAX or the USC campus, and cab will be less stressful.

Thanks so much for the info. A taxi ride is more expensive, but a good way to get familiar with the whole situation and reduce the stress. Definitely worth the money for me. Thanks!

the linens they give you aren't that great, I'd bring my own pillow. Oh bring money if you want to buy trojan stuff because i believe they give you a coupon for the bookstore for 15% off (they did last year when iw ent).

Oh, OK. I think I'll bring my own pillow then. When we check in on the first day of orientation, are we issued a dorm room key to stay overnight? And if so, do we get random roommates for that night?

Yep, when you get there in the morning, they give you a course catalog, a schedule of classes, and other information along with your room key. You are assigned randomly...I got lucky with a single, but I had friends in doubles (and triples too, I think).

By the way...you'll be so tired after orientation day 1 that you probably won't care much what kind of pillow you're sleeping on. I managed to sleep fine on the rock-hard mattress and plastic pillow...which, by the way, DOES come with a pillowcase! My orientation adviser learned the hard way. =)

oh yeah the "rock" hard mattresses you guys will sleep on in orientation are the same mattresses you guys sleep on all year! you'll get used to it or if not consider buying a mattress mad, egg crate foam, etc.

Geez... rock hard, eh? It's all good.
