anything special to see at cal?

im visiting this sunday and going on the 90 min tour. for afterword, would you recommend anything I should go see on campus???

thanks!

Forecast says rain on Sunday, so it might be a bit ugly. Cal isn't exactly the most beautiful campus in rain. Bring water resistant shoes or rain boots.

As for the campus itself, I'd recommend checking out Doe Library. It's what sold me when I visited. And maybe the Campanile (it's the big clock tower in the middle of campus; beautiful view)

on Sunday the campanile will be closed, but definitely check out some restaurants,...sunday's kinda quiet though.

I would recommend not wasting your time. Cal is a dissapointment, it's rundown and not the image that the flagship UC should be.

I really truly from the bottom of my heart disagree with wrathletik. I feel the Berkeley campus has its very own charm and culture. I could understand the argument that the city of Berkeley itself is not a very picturesque town, but it's like saying USC or UPenn is an ugly campus because the surrounding city isn't gleaming and sparkling.

Bear backer encourages the Stanford dreamer to check out the Axe.....

When did I say anything about the surrounding area? Kmass thanks for pointing out that the surrounding area sucks too, because I forgot to mention that. I traverse the campus everyday and it's horrible. Funny how you mention USC, I've been there many, many times and I can honestly say that the grounds at USC are pristine and well kept. At least over there, the bums and vagrants aren't allowed on campus to bother the students.

Check out some of the museums.

has no one seen the northside hills, or the residential areas past clark kerr? they're so beautiful and green! i don't know how people aren't charmed by this place, even the more run-down areas on southside.

i loved the biological building- it looked so grand

Wrath seems a little disgruntled. And while i respect that, its a bit lame for him/her to project that onto you.

Take a trip up the Campanille, $2 and its amazing. Check out Memorial Glade and the main Library. Walk along Strawberry Creek. Spend time in Sproul Plaza around noon. Sit in on a lecture in Wheeler Auditorium. Walk down Telegraph and eat at Crepes-a-go-go. Talk to a random student. Lets just hope its not Wrath ;).

Good Luck and
GO BEARS!

madamebovary, i think the biological building you mentioned is "VLSB".

for foot tour i suggest walking up from the west gate, that's probably the best part of the campus (VLSB, wellman hall, lawns, and bridge). then go north, pass by the chancellor's house. the little bridge there is beautiful. i had a lot of good memories there. go up north and check out the northgate hall. it has a nice courtyard inside. head down south towards the DOE library. it is one of the nicest library i ever seen. visit the campanile if u wish. pretty nice view on top but it charges money to get in unless you are associated w/ the university. also u want to visit the wheeler hall, it has the biggest auditorium on campus. go up hill by that road and you will find the strawberry creek on ur right. there is an old bridge there. pass that, theres a nice lawn where people used to play a lot of frisbee. find the secret path around the faculty club, you will come out right in front of the haas business school. haas has its own flavor. then you can walk south to Durant Ave? St? there are a lot of cheap restaurants there. lastly you can walk along two creeks passing thru campus, there are a lot of nice spots to chill. also the woods west of VLSB is prett cool too. and before you leave, ride a bus up to visit UC botanic garden and lawrence hall of science.

i hope that helps and have a wonderful time visiting Berkeley

i forgot, you might want to visit the Hearst Mining, Foothill student housing, and Greek theatre as well. Hearst mining is the most beautiful building on campus, followed by the south hall.
