From the beginning of my junior year(senior now), I have had trouble concentrating in school. For example, in English class when we would go down poems/stories/plays I will have the hardest time comprehending and remembering stories. I simply cannot focus while I see all my fellow students understand completely what is going on. In other classes, such as Math and Economics, I cannot remember simple readings and the things I DO learn, I easily forget it right afterward. When people ask me for help, I can almost never remember how to do what I just learned.

Even in other classes, a teacher can instruct me in something and I can forget it literally 3 minutes later. I really don't want this to continue in college. Any help?

Try writing down what your teachers say as they say it. I have some trouble remembering things too, but I find that writing them down allows me to refer back to my notes whenever I need them.

EDIT: I also take notes as I read stories and poems for Brit. lit. It has helped tremendously. I also found out from the teacher that he himself writes notes as he reads.

I find that i remember things better if i connect to something i really care. Like my own life or just little random things. It works for me. Or i color code things like the stories we read and notes.

You say that this STARTED in your Junior year. Did anything in your life change at that time? In other words, are there any new environmental factors that could have altered your short-term memory abilities?

Have you had a complete and thorough physical since you began to notice this phenomenon? If you haven't, get one. If you had one, but you didn't mention the memory issues, get a new one and specifically discuss these issues with your physician. You need to rule out any potential medical sources of your difficulties.

Make an appointment with your school counselor and discuss your memory issues with him/her. The school psychologist should be able to administer some tests that will help identify any psychological causes of these gaps, and the school resource teachers should be able to help you develop strategies (some good ones have been suggested here) for compensating for your memory challenges.

Write back and let us know how things are working for you!

Sounds like ADHD/anxiety to me. I had similar symptoms and my doctor diagnosed me with both. In math, I would always unintentionally zone out in the most CRUCIAL parts of the lesson which caused me to perform poorly on tests.

It does NOT sound like ADHD to me. ADHD doesn't suddenly arrive in one's junior year. But certainly you should talk to people at your school to try to figure out what is going on.
