Anywhere I can find acceptance rates of many top colleges by year?

I'm wondering if there's any place that has a compilation of undergrad acceptance rates of colleges by year through a very long time. I would like to compare trends without actually having to do tedious research on every single college's website to create the data if possible. Thanks in advance.

If there is not such a place with this data, what are the general trends? Acceptance rates typically always go done, right? But do they always? When and which colleges have decreased their selectivity significantly (if ever)?

So, instead you’re going to collect your research data on CC?

The data you’re looking for will be listed under “common data set” on each college’s website.

I realize that’s where it will be. I was just wondering if some other research website has already compiled a list of the top 30 or so schools in the US with their acceptance rates. I’m not talking about just the last couple of years, I mean well back into the 70s at least if they were available. The common data set is usually only available for the last 5-10 years or even less on most college sites.

I think they typically go down unless there’s a reason for them to increase. Compare UCLA’s 2010 and 2011 acceptance rates: The former was 22.7; the latter was 25.5. What caused the significant increase? The need for funding from international students. But due to overenrollment in 2011, i believe, this led to the decrease in 2012, from 25.5, to 21.3.

Ya, I agree with that analysis. I was hoping there was a place where you can see this kind of data but for 20+ colleges side by side to compare.

I can get 10 years worth easily for several hundred colleges but not 50 years worth.
2001-2010

You will want to wait until January to get the most recent CDSs. Right now, most universities will only have figures for the class of 2015, in some cases, 2014. By January, you should have figures for the class of 2017.

Here are admission rates 2010 through 2001 for about 100 schools. 2010 rates are on the left. Missing data is “0%”. From IPEDS US Dept of Ed
