Aother Out-of-Stater EA

Hello, I am new to this site, but i decided to make a name and see what some honest people think about my chances of admission into UNC.

ACT: two 29's, sent both scores...subscores: 1st = Math 29, Science 33, Reading 26, English 26.....2nd 29= Math 29, Science 31, Reading 32, English 25 (OUCH!)

Essays: from what I can tell, as well as the entire english department at my HS, my essays are great, as well as very unique
Teacher Recs: Awesome, including one from our high school principal
Hook- I Have already talked to the head lacrosse coach at UNC, and have been accepted as the team managerfor the 2010 season, so long as I am accepted. The coach emailed admissions telling them that I plan to work with the team.
Race: White (male)

I think without the Team Manager position, it would be a huge stretch, but I am hoping that will raise my chances. Hopefully they truly do perform the "hollistic review" I have heard all about...

THANKS!

Anyone? I would LOVE to be a tar heel!! ;)

I think you have a great chance of getting in coz of your great GPA and the whole lacrosse coach deal. I just hope your essays are fabulous.

SOLELY looking at numbers, (Just ACT and GPA) I would have to say there is not too much of a chance. That lacrosse deal might help out.
But yeah - the whole 18% OOS - basically means (again only using numbers, there are exceptions because of subjective things) you should be in the top range of stats. At least top 25%. 29 I think is about top 40 I think.

Goo luck though man! Lacrosse might help you. Unc is pretty big on athletes.

I actually wrote my optional additional statement about the lacrosse position so that might help. there is a chance that my application was reviewed before coach b got a chance to send that email so who knows!!! from what you know, does it take a 34, a 4.6, AND great leadership/ EC's, or or is there a hope i will be admitted with my 29? (30 superscore)

well...i don't want to be mean, but i think your chances are slim. the scores are going to hurt. They aren't everything, but they do matter, especially when the OOS pool is already so competitive. I think the lacrosse thing will help, but i'm not sure if it will do enough to offset the low scores. UNC does not superscore ACT, they just take the highest composite and the highest writing subscore. Chance me in return?

I know they don't superscore, but by sending both scores, I can only hope that they see the highest subscore of each section. Who knows, at this point, I can only keep praying! Oh and my best writing was an 8? Haven't heard much on what the normal scores for writing are...
