I was looking into the AS/A level requirements for Stanford University, and found out that only subjects that receive AP credit are eligible to receive credit, which would make one of my AS/A level courses ineligible for credit. Can someone please confirm whether this is true?. I take my A level exams in May/June of 2021, Would it be preferable for me to sign up for some AP exams in place of these A levels?. I have taken 4 SAT subject tests, should I just use these scores along with my high school GPA when applying to college?
Stats:
GPA (unweighted): 4.0
IGCSE: AAAAB
AS: AAB
SAT I: 1580
SAT II BIOLOGY E: 800
SAT II BIOLOGY M: 800
SAT II ENGLISH LITERATURE: 790
SAT II PHYSICS: 800
Confirm whether what is true? The credit chart? Yes it’s true. And there are several AP exams that earn no credit. As examples there are AP exams in History that do not earn credit so it stands to reason that A levels in. history would not earn credit. However, there are valid reasons for US students to take an AP history course to show rigor in the schedule.
That said, for admissions purposes, AP scores carry little or no weight. So don’t think APs give an admissions boost. Nor does submitting 4 Subject Test scores.
So continue on with your planned A levels assuming that all 3 subjects are in solid academic subjects. Good luck.
That’s the problem, one of my A levels is Business, which is not an AP subject, which if I understand correctly, means that it is not eligible for credit. I was asking if my SAT subject tests could replace this A level, or whether I should instead, sign up for some AP tests to replace the ineligible course.
The answer remains the same. There is no need to take AP exams. AP/Ib/A level all test at a higher level than Subject Tests. Just because Stanford does not give credit in a subject does not mean that the Subject is unimportant from a preparation perspective. Regardless there is no option to submit X in lieu of Y.
