<p>What is the typical freshman courseload in MIT? Just wanted to see how far my AP course load would be in resemblance.</p>
<p>Typically freshmen take two terms of calculus, two terms of physics, a term of chemistry, a term of biology, and some humanities/arts/social science classes.</p>

Kids in my school take around 6 APs on an average their senior year (only year for APs) and score 4~5. I want to make a choice between learning the art of 'grinding' 6 APs (which might be very handy in college) and going in depth with just 4 APs. Not sure which is quite a right choice at this stage. I do understand that MIT has no fixed number of APs to be taken at HS. But it would be wise to match senior yr courseload with freshman yr at college, right?</p>
<p>Your AP course load isn't necessarily all that relevant to the college experience. I took 8 APs and a grad class at my local university when I was a high school junior. Certainly, I worked harder that year than any other high school year, but I think I worked harder every term at MIT.</p>
<p>My first term freshman year at MIT was 8.01 (intro mechanics), 5.112 (advanced intro chem), 18.01/02A (the 2nd half of single-variable calculus plus all of multi-variable in a term + IAP), and 17.40 (US foreign policy). My second term was 8.02 (intro E&M), 7.013 (intro bio with a focus on human bio and neurobio), 21W.735 (writing and reading the essay, an upper-level writing class), and 17.0something (American political thought).</p>
<p>Er...so its nothing abnormal then! The top 10% students always take around 8 subjects here. Thanks jessiehl! I really want to take statistics+CS AB (a combination that leads to 7 subjects in my school!) I take 8 subjects (one AP) now...so I guess it won't be all that difficult.
