My friend just got his scores back and he somehow got a 2 on the APUSH test but an A in his class. Will this be kind of fishy to college admissions officers? Are they going to think that there is intense grade inflation at his school (not just this class but other classes as well)?
PS he told me he is the only A in that class.

in short yes

yes... maybe not widespread (across the school) inflation, but in that particular course.

Interestingly, his friend who recieved a B+ in the class got a 4

yea, with an A, if u dont get a 4 or 5, its gunna look weird..

I got a 5 on the test but a B for last semester.

That's probably because I skipped like six classes and never made up the quizzes.

Stupes. Some people are just better standardized test takers than others.

Have you heard of the phenomenon known as "Grade Inflation due to dubididudah teachers"?

What about A in class, but a 3 on a test.
Still bad? They were mostly borderline A's....

Yeah, maybe your friend who got the B+ learned a lot of the material, but slacked off on HW or classwork but the friend who got an A did the HW all the time, but didn't really learn too much.

The way I see it, the AP Exam score shows what you know, the AP Class grade is your ability to do Homework, classwork, and stuff you hate. Both are pretty important when you think about it.

BTW, I think the idea that someone can be bad at standardized tests is just a myth. Saying that one can understand something but just not do it on the test is kind of like saying "I can turn invisible, but I can only do it when there are no cameras or reputable people around".

thats like me...90 in euro class, but 2 on AP ^_^

I got a B+ in the class and a 5 on the exam. My grade was actually like second highest in the class.

I think your friend should consider getting his test rescored. It could have been a mistake.

I second the above advice. Also, colleges will never hold a bad score on AP tests against you because you're not obligated to take them. Essentially, the most an AP score will be is a cherry on top if they're good, unless you win the National AP Scholar award in junior year, which is indeed impressive.

I really doubt there was a mistake, unless you made a mistake, like if you accidentally skipped a question on the answer sheet and then kept going, bombing everything.

In my AP Euro class sophomore year, there was one kid who barely passed who got a 4 and another kid w/an A who got a 2. It just happens sometimes.

The kid in your class should take the SAT II for US History to make up for the 2, if it's not to late.

Remember that different formats suit different people.

Anyway, I'm happy with my AP scores:

AP Psych: B, 4 --> murderous class
AP Chem: A, 4 --> not too bad of a class, but expected a 3, teacher is amazing except the school held him back
AP English Lang: B, 5 --> murderous class, grade cap at B+, teacher is truly amazing
AP US History: A, 5 --> murderous class, 250 points total, one test, one paper, 50points for miniquizzes and a mini-paper, teacher is amazing

does getting a B in the class but getting a 5 on the exam help or does it show that you slacked off

In my case it better not. Look at my post above.

for me it was that i slacked off most of the year but buckled down in March and April. Oh well atleast I get college credit!
