I didn't really see an active thread for this AP class so I decided to make one.

Reflections anyone?

Apparently this year's was harder that the tests from previous years. This was my teacher's first year teaching this class, so I guess we were his test run. Even though the first thread recommends the Annotated Mona Lisa, I thought the book was too general for the AP test.

Also, does anyone have any old AP Art History tests lying around. I have a lot of AP tests to trade for them :]

I took the make up and didnt think it was too bad. Was exteremely happy w/ a 4. Especially since I took it online. The multiple choice was much aharder than the free response imo.

swim2daend: WOW! you took it online? that's really impressive...i would've gotten a 1 if i took it online. (there was wayy too much information to digest/remember)
honestly, i didn't think it was going to be a hard test until i actually went in and took it lol

peach. I literally skipped 2 days of school and just stayed home reading REA lol. Seriously, Iwas so stressed about the exam because there was SOOOOOOOO much information and I didn't (and still don't) understand modern art. Luckily, all the paintings of modern art on the exam were things that I studied :).

Made a 5...thought I made a 3 lol. My teacher was great, she was a career Art History teacher and critic, so I took in most of the material through lectures and homework.

Gardner's Art Through the Ages was a great textbook for the class

I hated that book! -_- I read like 4/32 chapters. War and peace is way more interesting... of course I don't like art so that could be the problem.

I used the Annotated Mona Lisa, but thought it was too general, so I also went over the notes I took in class.

As far as the difficulty level, I thought that this was the easiest AP I have ever taken. But of course, I had an amazing teacher who worked my class to the bone -- paid off in the end.

I thought Gardner's explained everything IN DEPTH, and made sure you got the general characteristics of whatever period you were studying. Furthermore, it's a great survey of nearly all great Western art (not so much for non-Western though).

Got a 4, took it online. I'm very surprised (and pleased), mainly because the last long essay I wrote was absolute crud. I mean, -absolute- crud. Let's just say I had a creative imagination for that essay.

I read Barron's, very interesting book. For any incoming students, I recommend learning the main works of each artist/period. Don't waste your time searching for obscure works of an artist, especially if it's at the last minute. Remember your artists, and if the work is very well known, learn the history, influence, etc.

I thought Annotated Mona Lisa was wayy to general...it's good for a quick overview right before the test though
Barron's...it was sooo specific with dates and everything
My teacher recommended REA so I went with that, but now I think Barron's is better?

I thought Barron's had a lot of useless information in it; it was just too hard to digest. I just used it to go over some of the benchmark pieces of the periods that we didn't go over in class.

I didn't use REA, but my teacher said that it's one of the best review books out there.

LOL There was a girl in my APAH class who had 6 APs... her lowest grade was a 93 in APAH... her second lowest grade was a 97. I think she made 5's in everything but APAH....

yeah everyone in my class thought it was hard
the seniors were debating if they should just leave during the break cuz the MC was so bad
i guess we just had a crappy teacher

I got a 5 too! I used REA AP Art History and Barron's. I found the REA book much more of an interesting read. The Barron's book had better practice tests though.
