I've heard a lot of mixed reviews from various people; some say that it is a great experience and will definitely benefit me in the long run and some say that it was a big waste of their time.

What is your opinion of the course? Do you have any tips for me going into the course? What should I expect?

I absolutely hated it. In my defense, I never really liked art but I loved history. I thought that they would balance each other out. I was wrong. It’s completely boring. It really depends on the person, I guess. If you’re going into an art career, then I recommend it. If not, don’t do it.

I actually really liked it. Maybe it was just my teacher who made it enjoyable, but I think that if you’re interested in art and history then you will probably enjoy it. We had to write a lot of essays and memorize a lot of information and details, so if you’re good at that sort of thing, then you will probably succeed in the class. But it seems like the type of class that you’ll only do well in if you’re interested in it (or really motivated), because there’s lots of reading to do. It’s cool to be able to talk about art I didn’t really know about before, and it was a cool way to learn about culture. I definitely enjoyed the class and benefited from it, but I have to admit that there were really dull and boring parts of the class. But you’ll make it!
As for tips, just make sure you’re making notecards for important art, artists, and vocab as you go along! Also, I think The Annotated Mona Lisa is good for brief review and for architecture from Greek/Roman on. But you don’t really need to buy it, just get it from the library. I just checked it out for the month previous to the AP test. I didn’t really use any other review book, so I can’t really recommend any. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use one! I regret not doing that.

The AP class is okay… For me it was a ridiculous workload (before they narrowed down the number of artworks if that makes a difference) in which you have to do more reading, writing, memorizing, and busywork than any college course I’ve ever had (except English in terms of writing during summer session).

You get quite obsessed over artwork for a year and then a lot of the things crammed in your memory vanish quickly over time (as they aren’t of much use in life). The overview of the time periods of art is nice though.

The best thing about the class? It’s the only AP that will get you out of the art class GE at my college!

I just made a video on how to pass AP Art History (and about the material)!

The class is very content heavy. Some dedication and commitment is needed. However, I have friends that studied less than I did and got the same score. I got a 4, by the way.

The College Board does not determine how easy/hard an individual class will be; the teacher does. Theoretically the exam should be more manageable though.
