hey anyone who took the AP Art History test and class u think i should take the class/test next year? was it hard ? easy? any input is appreciated.

If you don't mind a lot of textbook reading assignments, I would definitely recommend AP Art History. The great thing about that class is there's always something new to look at. Granted, the lectures can get really boring at times, but it was definitely worth it. I had a great AP Art History teacher and I got an A both semesters, no problem.

I thought the AP test was kind of difficult, but with a fair balance of easy/hard questions. It is was a long test (I think it was about 6 written responses in addition to the multiple choice), but I barely studied the night before and still got a 5.

Of course, the difficulty and everything is relative, but I think the class is well-worth it. It's always great to see a piece of art and be able to identify it /talk about it!

It was a fun class. The summer after i took the class i happened to be standing in the MET in New York, lol everyone seemed so impressed with my improptu lectures.

i only had 4 ap classes that year and had just enough time to read that ginormous textbook, and review for the ap test. i ended up with a 4, but if you're motivated, no doubt you can get an A and a 5.

Good class, you should take it.

Is the class significantly easier if you have no intention of taking the AP? I am a math/science guy and i am really only taking AP Art History because my counselor threatened me that she wouldn't check the "most difficult courseload" box if i didn't use it to fill my fine arts credit requirement. If i'm in the class for an A and nothing else, is it going to be much more difficult than say a drama class?

A lot of my friends took AP Art History as a way to fulfill the Fine Arts requirement and get a GPA booster while they were at it. Most of them got As both semesters. Of course, I don't think AP Art History is easier than a drama class, but it's not hard to get an A.

does anybody have a curve?

Thanks for the info..I think I will take the class next year.

Hmm, I am like the only one in my class taking this test and i am expecting a fail.

My teacher never taught this course before, and a lot of the class was just making art work.

When i look at the essay questions, i usually don't know about 50% of the questions... is this really bad? How should i spend my last day before the test?

bump
im in the same boat

Ouch. That does not sound good :(. What I did the day before the tests was read through the Annotated Mona Lisa.

Just don't panic during the exam. I'd focus on knowing how to identify the piece and/or the characteristics of each time period (so that if the piece is completely unfamiliar, you can take a good swing at it). After that, just look at the picture, relax, and interpret it! Be sure to identify the different conventions the artist used (lines, shape, whatever) and talk about how these conventions support your interpretation of the work (or whatever the prompt asks for).

The test is mostly writing, but I made up some stuff and got away with it. I think.

Good luck!

My school does not offer AP Art History, but I am highly interested in taking the test. Since my school is not partnered with a Virtual High School, all of the credited online courses I’ve found are very far out of my budget. Does anyone know any good online courses to take this with?

If not, do I -need- to take a course for this class, or will I be able to get a 4 or 5 with sufficient self-study? (This seems most likely for me due to cost.)

REA, Barrons, and the Annotated Mona Lisa seem like popular choices. Any other books or habits reccommended for self-study?

I’ve never done a class like this on my own before, so any help is appreciated! =]

If you self study the test, does it fulfill the UC fine arts requirement?

I’ve never done an art class before, but I want to satisfy the fine arts requirement. Would I be able to take this class? Does it count as a fine arts class? Do you actually have to make things?
AP art history is hard and requires a lot of work. It’s also a lot of writing, more than the AP Englishes even though you are just looking at art. It requires you to over analyze works of art even though the artist clearly coneys one or two meanings that don’t require you to take a year long course to figure out. And with what you do learn has not real life application, unless you plan on majoring in art history which is stupid. In my opinion this class is a waste of time and you would be better off taking another AP class like AP Euro or even a non AP class it’s just that bad
@g12wyuw, it’s kind of you to offer advice, but this thread hasn’t been active for a year- OP has probably made their decision
