AP Art History

Would AP Art History be considered a history or art credit? Because I want to take it next year but I need a history/social studies class, not another art. Also, how do colleges look at AP art history vs. AP US or Euro History?

It is typically a fine arts/humanities class for college credit. AP Euro can be taught in a semester, but neither AP Art History or AP US usually is. If you are looking for a credit for high school, you need to ask your counselor.

Oh, not sure where you are aiming but I remember that Harvard recommends a US and European History.

If you're talking about high school credit, you'll need to ask your counselor. At my school it didn't count as either. For most colleges I believe, it counts as a fine arts credit. Personally I think AP Art History is a great thing to take, you learn a lot of US and Euro history in the process. However, colleges might not feel the same way. Definitely take it if it interests you!

I think the answer varies by high school and college. In my sons' school, AP Art History was offered by the history department, and taught by the head of the history department. It was a history class. I don't know how the colleges viewed the course on my son's transcript, but if the college was familiar with the curriculum at this one high school, they would have known it was a history elective that students had to qualify for with grades from previous history classes. In terms of AP credit of course he only received credit for art history classes at college.

Yay for AP Art History! I'm planning on taking it next year too! I think most colleges will count it as a fine art/humanities.

The UC's definitely count it as a VAPA requirement, NOT history. AP Art History is a great way to fulfill the UC VAPA requirement and earn a bonus gpa point at the same time. However, you should also take a history course.
