AP Bio and the Science Section

Hey everyone!

Schedules are due soon for Junior year, and I don't have AP Bio on my schedule. In fact, I don't have any science classes on it. I have met my school's needs for science, completing Bio and Chem.

However, would not taking a science class (AP Bio is my only choice really, since AP Chem is 2 periods) hurt me on the ACT science section? Because honestly, I don't like science at all, but I don't want to regret it when my other scores are high and I have a low science score.

Would not taking AP Bio hurt me on the Science section on the ACT?

Thanks!

1) never mind the ACT; two years of lab science are usually not enough to apply to most competitive colleges (not the most selective, just competitive)…you may want to check that

2) the ACT peeps say that you don’t need to bring previous science knowledge to the test to do well; balderdash, I say…my daughter (2008 grad) said that both times she took it she used her knowledge from AP Bio on the test…

I’m looking into Georgetown and will be doing nothing that has to do with science.

Still take AP Bio though?

Edit: This will take place of AP Stats, which I will push back to Senior year.

Keep taking science.

No, you do not need any science knowledge for the ACT Science. Everything’s there for you.

if you’re applying to Georgetown i would say 100% take an AP science. You say you’re going to be a junior so i think AP Bio would be great because then you could also take the SAT II in Bio. I’m in AP Bio this year and it did help me on the science section, but that was just luck.

Why should I def take it?

See, I’m just being careful because I don’t care for science at all. Ha. I did fine in regular bio this year though, I ended with a 96%.

Would it help to know my schedule for next year? I’m going to take:

1) Concert Choir
2) Honors French 4
3) Honors Spanish 4
4) AP USH
5) Honors Trig/Pre-calc
6) AP Psych
7) AP English
8) AP Stats? (Or AP Bio?)

Why would it be needed for me to take Bio for Georgetown? My major has nothing to do with science, haha. The only reason I could see it would be needed would be to show I am well rounded and to do well on the ACT/SAT. And, to the previous poster, I am most def not going to take a SATII in Bio. No way. :)

Thanks guys!

You are competing with students from around the world, many will have an AP science. I would say AP Bio would be more important than a second foreign language, unless you wish to major in languages.

Yes, I am planning on using my lanuages.

Could I take AP Bio my senior year instead? Or would they not like that too?

Thanks for the help! They just gave us the schedule sheet on Friday and it’s due tomorrow!

Im taking AP bio senior year. I believe Georgetown requires SAT IIs so I would really recommend taking bio junior year so you can take the subject test in it. I dont see why you need to be taking two math classes when you have no science.
